Weekend Reading 7.6

 photo ACS_0323_zpsntmqqwjq.jpg

It has been a week, you guys. In fact on paper one might be lead to believe I'm actually a middle-aged white man going through a crisis: I wrapped up my full-time job, bought a new (to me) car, and chopped off my hair. I'm sure there were some other moments in there, too, but while this all may make me sound slightly unhinged, I'm very, very pleased with how things are going. The car is vintage, of course, a sweet little Volvo to be used mostly to get to and from the beach while Chris is working out of town, and I love it. The job situation perhaps deserves a longer post, but for now I'll leave it at this: If you're unhappy, do something about it, and also there are bright sides to every situation. For now, I'm focusing on my freelance work and also breathing some new life into this blog. I feel as though I've had ideas stewing for so long, but haven't had the headspace to bring them to life - so here we are. This weekend... I honestly have no idea. It's been brutally hot and humid here, but it looks like we might actually get a break, so the only thing I'm hoping for is time spent outdoors! Hope yours is a good one, friends.

ICYMI: Raw cheesecake (not just for the 4th)

How your vote impacts the environment - guys, this stuff matters. The ocean was so warm this week... and that's not a good thing.

The most perfect vintage Levi's 501

Yum - I already made strawberry rhubarb crisp this morning, but I think I need to make these vegan no-bake cookies too

I love using pieces like this for my hanging planters

I've been updating my Poshmark almost every weekend - adding some jewelry today!

On my July wishlist: a cute pair of printed slide sandals like these, a color-blocked dress like that red and pink number, loafers like these because I'm insane and already thinking about transitional pieces, and an eye-catching dress made out of something breathable!

These handmade celestial bridal crowns are next-level gorgeous!

Have you had this conversation with a friend yet? Because I sure have: Why do we all love true crime so much?

Save an extra 30% off sale items from Madewell! Loving this cute tiered skirt, this cross-body bag, and this '70s-style striped tank

Topical: Sunburn remedies (I am currently just one giant sunburn and I am SO ASHAMED)

Love these sleek booties - so good with a white cotton dress or top and skirt set, right?

Watermelon jerky is, apparently, a thing. and guys... it looks GOOD

This simple high-waisted bikini looks way more expensive than it is

How to boost productivity in the summer (i.e. when you least want to be working *slowly raises hand*)

Weekend Links 4.20

 photo IMG_3848_zpsfxlxzrc5.jpg

Happy Friday! (and, ahem... happy April 20th) What are you up to this weekend? The sun is finally shining here so we're absolutely making time to get outside and go hiking or something. (to illustrate how dire things are: when we woke up this morning, Chris asked what time it was. When I told him it was 6:45, he said "why's it so bright then? ...oh wait, that's sunlight" in all seriousness) I feel like we've been on autopilot this week with work-gym-eat-sleep as we wait for the season to make up it's mind. It's been pretty bitterly cold for the season and we're just ready, you know? Anyway, I hope the sun is out for you this weekend and you have something fun planned, too. Here are a few things that caught my eye this week:

Like, three cheers for no longer having to cover festival season for work, but also this dress would be pretty perfect for Newport Folk

Check out my travel guide to Portland, Maine (personally I think I've planned the perfect day for you)

Honestly i need a backpack, but this holographic tote is calling my name

ICYMI: 3 ways to celebrate Earth Day (also known as this Sunday!) and how to oil pull

We picked up some new plants last weekend and I think we definitely need this book now - I'm so afraid of killing them!

Check out one of my favorite recipes here - seriously life-saving during the 3pm slump

This would be a really nice minimalist Mother's Day gift

Lots of new things happening around here. I gave this blog a much needed facelift and added a handy page where you can find same and similar items to pieces in my closet. I'll be adding a decor version soon!

So, so into this chic button-up linen dress (like, how many white linen dresses is too many white linen dresses? Asking for a friend... because this one is damn cute too)

Blown away by this gorgeous dresser DIY

Never not obsessed with moons and big earrings – so here's both. also look at these!

How to reduce waste in your bathroom - love these tips from Joanna

I bought these party pants last weekend and I can't wait to wear them. On sale too! They look great with a white tank, a band tee - pretty much anything.

Because I love anything weird, old, and having to do with cats: this antique stove cover would be a cool accent on a wall or above a mantle

Weekend Links 11.5

 photo IMG_4850_zps4zxvfymw.jpg
Happy weekend... and happy November! How are you adjusting with the time change? I'm feeling extra thankful for the extra hour of sleep, but a little sad about the loss of daylight. Ok, more than a little sad – I'm having a hard time with these super short days lately, especially now that I'm not living in the city. I love seeing the stars at night, but it's hard not to feel like the day is over as soon as it's dark out. This weekend has been wonderful though - yesterday we went to Camden, hiked with some friends, and hit up Moody's Diner afterwards. As someone who works remotely, spending time with real, actual humans has been key in maintaining sanity. It's easy to feel cut off during the week, especially right now, so it was especially nice to get out of the area and see some old friends. Seeing the coast was also a nice reminder of why we're here. We're very much experiencing small tow life right now – all the good and all the bad. So seeing the coast, and spending some time in Portland was exactly what we needed tp feel refreshed. Anyway, I'm rambling. Today was super chill - I went to the gym, baked, made myself dinner, and am trying to get as much writing done as possible in preparation for another busy week. How about you? Good weekend? XO

This vintage blouse is so pretty for fall, especially paired with classic levi's and ankle boots.

100% obsessed with Justina Blakeney's collection for Target - love this comforter, this one too, and this pretty throw pillow

This made me laugh

Weekend Reading 9.17

 photo IMG_3472_zpse22xqica.jpg

Hi Friends, how was your weekend? Mine was... productive (but not very exciting). If you saw this post on Instagram, you already know that Chris and I have a lot of packing to do, so that's exactly how I spent the past two days. We have just under two weeks left in Philadelphia, and I'm determined to not live out this move the same way I did the others (i.e. stressed beyond believe with boxes full of unnecessary junk). This morning, I brought ten trash bags full of donations to Philly AIDS Thrift, filled up five Ikea bags for an upcoming Poshmark update, and spent the rest of the day packing and cleaning. I even hired someone to clean the bathroom and kitchen before we leave (a first, and an indulgence, after reading this article - and yes, I understand my privilege in being able to do this, though I am budgeting for it)  - this is all abysmally unexciting, but sometimes you gotta get shit done. Have a lovely Sunday night!

The perfect bag for fall - how gorgeous is this?

Free People is donating 25% of sales today (Sunday) to hurricane relief - I'm in love with this pretty dress and this National Parks top

Would you travel solo on your birthday?

Happy Friday, folks. After a slow couple of weeks, I'm feeling inspired again, which feels pretty damn good. It's funny how much of a role momentum plays in blogging, it's sort of like working out, you stop for a bit and suddenly it becomes harder and harder to start back up again. Anyway, what are you up to this weekend? As much as I don't want to, I absolutely need to do some spring cleaning tomorrow. Then Chris and I were hoping to go hiking on Sunday, but guess what? RAIN. Every time we have a day off together -- it rains! So we're thinking we might check out some antique places or something. I'm heading up to Maine next weekend, so I'll be preparing for my trip a bit, too. I can't wait. Have a good one!

Happy Sunday, guys. Another weekend, come to a close. How was yours? Two of our good friends came to visit from Massachusetts and it was so good to see them. We had a diner breakfast (the best), went to the Mutter Museum, checked out the ships at the navy yard, and made a quick pass through Reading Terminal Market (it was crazy), before closing it out with Shake Shack. We also watched the new Pee Wee movie, which, obviously, we loved. I've got a busy week ahead, but I'm feeling good about it. My goal is to get to bed earlier so I can get up earlier. Cheers to Monday, guys, here are a few links to get your week off to a good start.

Happy Sunday night, friends. How was your weekend? Mine was... restful, productive... pretty much exactly what I needed after a rough start to the month. I've been struggling a bit this past week with a bout of homesickness, city-sickness, otherwise-feeling-glum-ness, feelings that have a tendency to grace me with their presence at the start of the holidays, when I wish I could be closer to family, closer to the woods. In an effort to break myself out of it I've been baking like a banshee, making ornaments, and working out -- which always, always makes me feel so much better. I'm currently on week 8 of Kayla Itsine's workout and I love it. I was skeptical going in -- especially of something with the name 'Bikini Body Guide' -- but the progress I feel is amazing. I can do burpees now! Not that burpees are fun... but hey, the feeling of accomplishment and progression is worth it.

How have you been? Have your holiday shopping done? I definitely don't...

This pretty vintage silk dress would be a nice alternative holiday dress

But if you're looking for something more glitzy - save 30% off party dresses at Asos! Love this red party dress

Here & There: Small Business Saturday Edition

 photo vsco-photo-2_zps7fnoyqp6.jpg
Happy Saturday! It's hard to believe we're prepping for the holidays with the weather being as it is outside. 60+ degrees and sunny... is this even the Northeast? Regardless, I'm determined to make it feel festive in my apartment. Today, I'm gathering a few supplies to make a garland for our ornaments (cat proof!) and then trekking up to Center City to run a few errands. Our car has been out of commission for a couple of weeks, which has been a great lesson in flexibility and also incredibly frustrating. I've come to appreciate Philly's public transit, but this is also the time of year when all I want to do is hike up in the Poconos. Which are, unfortunately, out of reach of the SEPTA. So, I'll be doing everything within walking distance today, including a bit of holiday shopping.

I love popping in to the boutiques and shops in Old City and Passyunk when I'm out for the day, and feel just as passionate about supporting the small online businesses I've come to know and love. This weekend's link roundup is devoted to those businesses, the small and handmade, the independently run, the ones owned by friends and family who work so hard to bring their visions to life. Check it out and I'd love to know your favorite places to shop small, too!

Jess Amity always has the raddest assortment of vintage - how incredible is this leather tooled handbag?

Looking for cute holiday cards? My girl Melissa has you covered (Love these from Odd Daughter too)

So in love with that candle up there and the blood orange lip balm, too. Both from Moorea Seal and up to 70% off, along with the rest of the site!

This salt bath sounds heavenly

I finally got a new phone! Which means I really need a new case to protect it from my clumsiness. Love these from With Lavender & Lace

This is the cutest thing ever - also, how awesome is the name Zarathustra?

How pretty are these mini embroideries?

Take 20% off Sarah Safavi Jewelry (as a bonus 5% of sales will be donated to the Global Fund for Women)

A sexy minimalist bag for someone very (very) special (love these too)

How's your Sunday night going? We just returned from a weekend spent in the Poconos at a cabin with a big group of friends and it was exactly what we needed. Late night wine drinking, Cards Against Humanity, Mrs. Doubtfire on VHS, and way too much food. November was off to a weird start last week, with temperatures rising to the mid-70s, which was nice, but disconcerting paired with the time change. Because of it, I felt like we spent last week in an exhausted, grumpy haze, so retreating to the seasonally appropriate temperatures of the mountains felt right. I love this month, summer is fun and all, but there's something about cold, bleak November that speaks to my soul. This week will be another busy one, with shoots planned in NYC and outside of Philly, so tonight we're chilling out... before the crazy hits all over again.

Love this incredible vintage '60s leopard print cape!

Can you believe summer is nearly over? This year is flying by at an alarming rate - possibly faster than any other year before it, I'm just trying to slow it down and enjoy it as much as possible.

Can you believe it's already the end of August? It blows my mind that this summer is nearly over. This past week was a crazy one (aren't they all?) and for the first time in awhile I couldn't find the time to get a post up. We celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary, there were a number of Free peeps in from the west coast offices, we took an impromptu work jaunt to NYC, a recovery day was needed on Saturday, and honestly, sometimes it's nice to just live life and forget about the internet. A few people have asked about pics from my Paris/Stockholm trip last month (last month!), and I know it sounds crazy, but I've barely looked at them. It's almost too overwhelming. But that's on my goal list for this week. The heat has been gradually subsiding over the past week or so, making getting outside a bit easier and making me feel just a bit more motivated. How have you been doing?

How gorgeous is this sky blue vintage fringed jacket? So perfect over a white sundress.

Pretty bags for fall -- love those fringed backpacks

Happy (lazy) Sunday, guys. What are you up to today? Chris and I got back late last night from a quick road trip up to Beverly for a friend's wedding, and I have a feeling we'll be spending most of today in recovery mode. We stayed with two of our good friends that we don't get to see too often, and it turned into a bit of a... party. We are not 25 anymore, and our bodies are letting us know it.

Can you believe it's already mid-August? So crazy. I have such a long list of things to do before summer ends. Like have a campfire. There aren't enough campfires in my life. Too much partying, not enough campfires. Anyway, hope your day is a good one!

How gorgeous is this handmade clutch from Jess? Perfect for fall (are we already talking about fall?)

I've been on the hunt for some new denim for fall - that patchwork pair is at the top of my list.

Love this post of Megan's - and her outfit!

How rad is this throw pillow? Would love to add to our living room!

Here + There + Happy 4th of July!

Happy (almost) 4th of July, friends! I'm writing to you from beautiful Beverly, MA and I couldn't be happier to have 24 hours in our old stomping grounds. So much has changed, but it's all still the same. Different people, different businesses, same lovely little city. I think I'll always feel conflicted about our move away from here - it was something that had to happen, but our life here was pretty fantastic as well. And I guess that's all you can ask for - better to move while still enamored with the place you call home. My nostalgia is always kicked up a few notches in the summer, pining for long bike rides and skinny dips and blow out, bad-decision parties on our old roof. Ugh, summer.

I'm on a solo trip this week visiting family and friends, and checking a few things off my summer bucket list while I'm at it. Lunch at my favorite cafe, breakfast at my favorite diner, lots of beach time, and -- of course -- some fun work projects thrown in for good measure. I'm looking forward to spending the evening with two of my closest friends tonight and then heading further North tomorrow to see my family - it's been too long!

How are you celebrating the long weekend? Fireworks? Parties? I hope it's wonderful however you spend it.

Happy Saturday! What are you up to today? I kicked off my morning with a much-needed pre-breakfast run, ending at Honey's on South Street where I convened with two of my favorite ladies. After breakfast I meandered through the Rittenhouse farmers' market and up to where Chris works to meet up with him at the close of his shift. Yes, I sure do love how walkable/runable this city is, it makes discovering new places so much more fun.

So far the rain is holding out on us, a great thing since we're headed up to Manayunk today to explore the arts fest happening this weekend. And tomorrow? Tomorrow I hope to replace those old ass running shoes up there with something new and knee-friendly. Because, man, I have the knees of an elderly person. Sadly the Asics I ordered were too small, so fingers crossed I find the perfect pair. Exciting stuff, friends. What are you up to?

Happy Sunday - how are you spending the last few hours of your weekend? The past couple of days in Philly were pretty much perfect: beers with friends -- outside! -- after work on Friday, 80 degrees and sunny on Saturday (with some late-night tacos), and an afternoon spent planting my potted garden today. I'm feeling super accomplished and am now set to spend the rest of my Sunday relaxing with the cat. Here are a few links that caught my eye this week:
