Create. Compete. Ca-Ching! with Couturious!

So I've mentioned Couturious.com on here before, the unbelievably addicting styling site where you essentially get to play virtual paper dolls with thousands of designer pieces...for hours on end. Yes, it's addicting! Well, a few weeks ago Couturious contacted me to see if I would be interested in being one of the judges for a scholarship competition they are hosting, how could I say no? The contest is open to anyone who is currently enrolled or will be enrolling for Fall 2010 in any of the 8 participating Colleges. There will be three winners chosen: The grand prize of $2,000, second place receiving $750, and third receiving $250!
Submissions will be accepted April 12- April 25th. For more information on the competition, the participating colleges, and to read my dorky introduction visit the contest page at Couturious!

Good luck and happy styling!

Well, happy one hundredth post to me- I wish it could be more interesting! To be honest, I've been working so much that when I'm not moving a million miles a minute, all I want to do is sleep. I've seen way too many sunrises for my taste within the past week, and way too many 18 hour days! I don't have much to report for my weekend activities, mainly because I worked both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I headed to Hartford, CT with two other people from my office to represent at the National Portfolio Day at HartArt and then got up and did the same on Sunday in Boston! NPD's are like college fair's specifically for prospective art students, there is a representative (sometimes a few) from each major fine art college and the student is able to have their work reviewed. Fun, for about 10 minutes, at which point I've seen enough drawings of hands to last a life-time. One nice thing that took place was a family dinner at my friend E's house. (Almost) Everyone who I've been missing was there and we all sat around and talked and ate (and ate and ate!). It was lovely!

I have tomorrow off! Chris and I have some fun Autumn-centric things planned, I can't wait to do something not work related!

The Never Ending Work Week: Beverly to Hartford to Beverly

I don't usually post on weekends, but since I was up and getting ready for work anyway, I figured I would. Sorry for the craptacular photos, I woke up to torrential downpours this morning which made taking nice pictures pretty impossible (we have a pretty extreme low light situation in our apartment).

As I mentioned yesterday and the day before, I found some pretty prime thrift finds during my time in Maine. Below is by far the best:

A grey fleece Diane Von Furstenburg poncho (6.00). I'm thinking I'll wear it with a flowy top and really tall platform boots. It's a little gigantic, but I think it works. Kind of like a fashion-snuggie. har har. I'll be slowly posting my other treasures as I wear them this next week. Rain tomorrow again. Also tomorrow: more work. sad.

You may notice that I have a guest with me today, it's my brother! We were supposed to take his senior pictures this afternoon, but just ended up goofing off and taking cheesy "sibling pics". John has pretty rad style, he bought this leather jacket from Angry Young And Poor and then customized it by adding hundreds of spikes and a three color Misfits stencil on the back. The red belt he's wearing used to be mine, I'm glad I could pass it down to someone who rocks it so well!
Today was pretty busy, I had two High School presentations which kept me running all over the midcoast, in my down time today I ate at the famous Moody's Diner (try the pie) and visited the wonderful Farnsworth Art Museum. The Farnsworth is currently featuring works by two of my favorite artist's: Robert Indiana and Louise Nevelson, both of whom have studios in Maine!
I drove back to my Mom's this evening, where you can see below, my brother and I chased chickens and held a little photoshoot. Punk rockers and farm animals (farms in general) are not things that naturally go together, but my brother's a unique kind of human. Also, chickens are incredibly hard to catch, ours are extremely suspicious.

PS- I did do some thrifting today, I can't wait to show off my finds tomorrow!
(hint: designer something!)
Also, I know I've been really bad about commenting back on every one's blogs, I assure you I'm reading all of your posts, and will be back to commenting tomorrow!

On the Road: Bangor to Belfast to Brunswick

Today started with another college fair this morning, after which I headed to Belfast for a high school visit. Belfast is beautiful, the carved piers below were by far the best finds of the day. I love the one that looks like it has seaweed hair. I was also able to actually take some daily style pics, the outfit is a bit of a re-run which is why I haven't been posting much style lately- when I'm on the road, I wear a lot of the same stuff- life's rough living out of a suitcase.

So, I started my day in North Conway, NH and ended it in Bangor, ME which is almost Canada. But not quite. I am currently using the worst internet ever at a Comfort Inn...blah. Ahh, life on the road! I got my hair cut today, which is really just an excuse to hang out with my friend Kristin. The college fair was at University of Maine, Orono this evening, it was OK, tomorrow should be better. That last image is of the College fair, this is my view for three months a year! The upside is that the fall foliage is beautiful, give it another week and the trees will really be perfect!
