A Girl of Many Hats

Cold nose, cold hands...
Hat: Complements of Hats In The Belfry
Tunnel Scarf: Knitted by me
Coat: H&M (two years old $70.00)
We finally got snow! There were blizzard conditions all day yesterday, and it was so beautiful. I love it when it snows out and everything that is ugly about the the city is blanketed in soft white. So pretty for about 24 hours. It was the perfect day to try out my new cloche from Hats In The Belfry. For a girl who usually grabs one of her boyfriends stretched out beanies before sprinting out of the house for work, this hat is very very fancy. I love how the grey in the flower (removable- it's a pin! it's a brooch! it's on my hat! no it's not!) matches my coat, which, depending on how I wear it can be very '20's or very '60's. Hats In The Belfry has some amazing pieces on their site, some straw hats I'm dying over for Spring!
Unlike the rest of me, my head stayed warm and dry. By the time I was finished taking photos my hands were frozen solid and I was skeptical if my camera would ever work again. February is always a snowy month here in Massachusetts, fingers crossed for more storms!
I added just a dash of color with my first successful knitting project: a tunnel scarf.

and because winter's not over yet...

The blues are still blue

This is a scheduled post as I will be at the gallery receiving work tonight! Saturday is just around the corner!
(If I look tired, it's because I am. I took these early early this morning)
Mens Shirt: Salvation army in Framingham, MA (2.00)
Suede Skirt: Goodwill in Harrison, ME (2.99)
Tights: Target (5.00)
Shoes: Target sale (6.99)
Necklaces: H&M and Dolly and Boy
When I woke up this morning it was very lightly snowing, which only means one thing: I want comfort. Comfort food, comfort drinks, and comfort clothes. This isn't what I was planning on wearing at all today, but I realized I haven't worn this mens button down in months and it seemed appropriate for the kind of day it was. It's super old and worn in, the perfect soft thing. With the busy plaid pattern and my hair down, I didn't feel like it needed too much accessorizing: just a couple of long necklaces. I like how the sleeves almost look like they're dolman sleeves, but it's just because of how big the shirt is.

I'm on second day hair today, which is great because all I had to do was finger-comb it and touch up the front with my curling iron. I'm never too perfect with curling it, I'll leave a lot straight. My goal is for it to look as natural as possible (plus it requires less effort). Occasionally I'll curl the whole thing but I just end up feeling too sweet and like a poodle.
So I hope some of you can come to the gallery show! You can also visit the This Collective Pull blog to read more about it and be connected to the Facebook group. I'm really excited for the opening on Saturday, but I'm also a little excited for the quiet and solitude that Sunday will bring with it! I'm a hermit at heart!

Over the Weekend...

So as I mentioned in last Thursdays post, Chris and I went to my mom's house in Maine this past weekend. The weather looked like it would be pleasant and perfect for snowboarding, so we made plans to head to the mountain on Saturday. It was so nice being somewhere that has NICE snow- not the mashed potato mush of Boston!
The view driving down my mom's road is pretty amazing when it's clear out (the white peak is Mt. Washington)...
What's great about our local mountain is that it's almost guaranteed you will find someone to ride with, and true to form we ran into our friend Shawn in the parking lot! WInters in our town were never boring, it's great having so many mountains around, my brother even has time to come here during his study hall...
Chris and I looking pretty gnar after deciding we were old and crotchety and swapping the slopes for hot chocolate...
My brother has the most amazing one-piece snowsuit I have ever seen. He got it super cheap at the local charity shop, and it makes spotting him on the mountain extremely easy (what's missing is his leopard-print scarf and lime green helmet) ...
It was so nice to get away for the city and see friends and snow and family, I'm really looking forward to going back up!

From colored skies to grey snowy mornings

Cardigan: H&M (16.90)
Dress: Thrifted (3.00)
Tights: Target (5.00)
Shoes: Tuk Creepers (hand-me-down)
Necklace: H&M (6.00)
We're finally getting some snow! By now it's really coming down, I hope we get a lot- I love snowstorms! This kind of outfit is ideal for days spent hanging around the house. I found this tent dress in New York during my travel season, I hacked off about 6 inches to make it less like a maternity-esque, I like how fluffy it is. The shoes I'm wearing were handed down to me by a friend from school a few years ago, I love how theatrical they are, they remind me of Frankenstein. There are a lot of imitation Creepers out there with lighter soles, but these are the real deal and they're actually really heavy! I wish the texture of my tights showed up better here, you can kind of see it in the first image. I layered a pair of crochet tights over a pair of plain black stockings.
Still not sure about New Years. I have a couple of Rodarte dresses that I would really like to wear to something, but I think the snow might make traveling to a party difficult.
P.S. I just realized that few people know what Creepers are, whoops! They actually have a really interesting history and are sometimes referred to as "Brother Creepers".
From the Wiki-Page:
"They found their beginnings in the years following the WWII: Soldiers based in the deserts in North Africa wore suede boots with hardwearing crepe soles because of the climate and environment. Having left the army, many of these ex-soldiers found their way to the disreputable nightspots of London (Kings Cross and Soho) wearing the same crepe soled shoes. Those became known as Brothel Creepers...In the late 1950s, these shoes were taken up by the Teddy Boys."
