Throwing it waaaay back to September... whoops. Chris and I had hit up the Franklin Flea market when it was held at the Navy Yard, and took the opportunity afterwards to poke around the older buildings that haven't yet been refurbished. I picked this skirt up over the summer at another flea market and I'm a little bit obsessed. For someone who all of a sudden finds themselves in jeans more often than not, a gorgeous, floaty skirt is pretty much the best.

As a kid, I dreamed of one day escaping the mountains for New York City (apparently the only city to exist for small, dreamy children). I imagined a fancier, crisper life, dreamed of becoming a fashion designer... about leaving that small town life far behind me. Life is ironic isn't it, though? Years and years later I find myself living in the city, dreaming of the mountains (although I would not describe my life as crisp and wrinkle-free in any way). I love the city, but on the weekends it's imperative for me to get out. To get far out.The earth below me, the sky above.

On this sunny, brisk November day, Chris and I drove north, bound for the boulder field of Hickory Run State Park in Northeast Pennsylvania. There's nothing that calms my heart rate quite like the wilderness, and as I jumped from rock to rock, with my feet solidly beneath me protected by the softest moccasins that formed to each and every striation, the tension and stress of the city evaporated with every breath of snow-tinged air. It's amazing what a difference a change of location makes.

Whether you feel most at home in the city or country, be sure to hop on over to Delightfully Tacky and the Minnetonka Moccasin blog to see just how versatile the 'El Paso' boot is. I'm so excited to be partnering with them today, and I love how Elizabeth and I took our looks in two completely different directions, perfectly capturing the essence of '1 Style, 2 Ways'.

As much as I love the warmer months, I feel my best in fall. Layered up, maybe a little camouflaged, maybe a little hidden, perfectly content with moody grey days and brisk weather. Disguised in a cloud of fluffy olive and soft charcoal.

(this face was requested by Chris, who is currently, at this very moment, serenading me with the Gilmore Girls theme song)

It's not much of a secret how much I love these grey November days. Diffused skies, cold air, soft light, a cozy sweater. A hat that has clearly -- judging by the hole and extra furs -- been enjoyed by a cat.

My Monday through Fridays are so busy that I rarely dress up these days (also, I'm lazy and take too long to get ready in the morning), so when the weekend rolls around I'll take any excuse to actually utilize the other 90% of my closet. And I just love these colors together... black, olive, and the perfect marled grey sweater. Soft and diffused, just like those skies, and the perfect length for cute mini skirts.

Our hiking plans for the past few weekends have been thwarted by one thing or another. Car trouble, waking up late. General unpreparedness. We had big plans to drive further North, but ended up on a low-key ramble around the woods of the Wissahicken. Not exactly the all-day hike I was looking for, but gorgeous in the late-autumn sun nonetheless. My Amazon cart is now brimming with hiking and outdoor guides for Eastern Pennsylvania, because there is always next weekend.

I'm happy it's finally hat weather. Makes covering up the mess on my head all the easier, and thanks to Lyndsay from The Seam Designs, I can finally stop stealing Chris' red beanie. Because I'm in complete and total love with this one. Red hats, they're the best, right? Even better with a pom pom. I have another outfit post for this week featuring it, proving that red is far more versatile than one might think.

While in Richmond for work recently, Chris and I made sure to stop by Hollywood Cemetery. It was a quick trip, but worth it just to wander among the dead for a few moments. When my time comes, I have no plans to be laid to rest among the many strangers of the world, but that morbid thought doesn't mean I don't find cemeteries to be among the most peaceful places. I love weaving between the tombstones, reading off those classic names and admiring the artistry of the carvings.

Happy Halloween, everyone. What are your plans for tonight? Revelry? Rabble rousing? We're of to a party, dressed as a train conductor and Rosie the Riviter (thanks friends, for the suggestion). Be happy, be safe!
