Here & There 11.25

Happy day after late-fall friend & family thanks-giving fun time! Honestly, with everything happening in the world, especially Standing Rock, celebrating a traditional 'Thanksgiving' felt... wrong, so it's just as well that we stayed in Philly this year. Plus, my family has never been much for a traditional Thanksgiving anyway. When I was younger, our "normal" Thanksgiving involved my mom taking my brother and I snowboarding for the day, where the mountain served something close to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Afterwards, we'd head home and feast on microwave burritos and watch movies. It was pretty perfect. This year I stuck to my own tradition and ran an early morning Turkey Trot while Chris worked a shift, then we made a big dinner with friends. In the years to come, I'm looking forward to reimagining this day as something different. A day to be grateful and give back -- minus the weird and inaccurate 'pilgrim/indian' narrative. Think about it - wouldn't it be cool if we just had a day where we were encouraged to make a huge dinner for friends and family and then give to the charities and causes we cared about? And we all just had this day off from work.

And now it's officially the holiday season. Today Chris and I are going to the art museum and planning out the gifts we're going to make this year, and tomorrow I'm looking forward to doing some Small Business Saturday shopping. Hope you have a fun weekend planned! XO

Sounds like you had a good weekend! While we have a family Thanksgiving dinner every year, the whole Pilgrim-Indian narrative has never been a part of that.
