Lavender Blue

In this outfit:
Dress: Vintage - defunct shop in Beverly ($25)
Vest: Thrifted ($5)
Belt: American Apparel (old)
Bracelets: F21 ($3-ish)
Heels: Jeffrey Campbell from ModCloth
Earrings c/o Lulu's

Where I wore it: To the office, out for a beer

It's been over two years since I wore this dress. One of my favorite vintage pieces (but let's be honest, they're all my favorite), lately it's been shoved in the back of my closet, deemed a little too cutesy for my taste these days. However, as soon as I put this outfit together, I regretted having not worn it for so long. I think I have to remind myself that, sometimes, an outfit that's straight-up pretty is OK. If that makes sense. For the past six months, I feel as though I've had a pretty clear vision of what I want my wardrobe to be, which I'm happy about, but on the flip side, I'm realizing that as I get older I need to be cognizant of not closing myself off from things just because in my head I think something's "too young". The right accessories go a long way, and clothes are supposed to be fun.

Anyways, now that I've bored you to tears with DEEP THOUGHTS on your Thursday morning. This is what happens when I don't get enough sleep, I wax philosophical on my closet and try to sound all smaht n'stuff. You can see how I last wore this dress, way back in 2010 right here.

i recently got a dress with a very similar silhouette while i was in paris and, despite being new to my wardrobe, i have deemed it too cutesy and young. may be a bit late in the season to whip it out, but maybe not...

I like your deep thoughts, ha! I often worry about looking too young... maybe because a lot of the women in my office are in their 40s 50s and wearing miniskirts... shudder...

awww this is my favorite dress of yours too!! It is just so pretty and just so pretty on you. It also makes me think of swap day photoshoots.

At first glance, this dress is really cutesy. But, the way you completed the outfit, I don't think it's too young looking at all. You're right... accessories really can play up/down any outfit.

that DRESS! it fits you so perfectly, and looks SO pretty! I love it- the lace is gorgeous, and I don't think you look remotely too young or too girly:) It goes really well with all the lavender too:) love it.

This is a good rule. I'm 29 and I sometimes pass up things that would be too "young" or cutesy so I know what you mean. I need to stop doing that and just wear what I like!

This is such a great dress! I'm also guilty of leaving things in my closet only to regret never wearing them, it totally sucks!

Clothes are fun! Yeah! I keep stuff that I don't wear for ages then, when you rediscover forgotten gems, it's like having something new all over again!

HaHa. Yes deep thoughts, I was having similar serious thoughts about my use of colour, but as you say fashion is meant to be fun. I often think things are to cute/short these days but then again may as well wear these shorter lengths while still young.

I love the mood of these photos...so soft and pretty :) I work in an office and I've struggled sometimes with thinking maybe I'm dressing too young, or too "girlie," especially since I work mostly with men and there can be a fair amount of sexism. But I've decided not to let those thoughts bother me too much. I think the quality of my work speaks for itself - and there's no shame in dressing young or girlie. I'm just as strong and confident in those kinds of outfits as I am in a pair of jeans - or actually, even more so, because I feel more comfortable in dresses!

I didn't mean to write a novel, haha. Long story short: you look great, don't let those thoughts bother you too much.

I think I read somewhere that you altered your denim vest to be more fitted... If so, what did you do? I have one that I love but it's also pretty boxy and i'd like it to be more fitted. Any tips?

I know what you mean about some things feeling too girly or "young." My style was uber feminine for a bit and I'm trying to reconnect with my more tomboy roots now.

omg you are too freaking cute. i love that dress! at first glance i thought they were separates! so darling...
and i agree even though i'm still a baby (20yrs old) i think if it's paired the right way...nothing is too young, well okay some things but you know!
