Purple is one of my most favorite fall colors, I love how it pops when paired with grey and lighter colors, like in this Ruche dress on loan from Tieka. I had been admiring this dress all summer, but missed out on my chance to order it, luckily Tieka was faster and offered it up to the ladies of the Delightful Dozen to style up! The size was actually a little too big for me, so to make it seem smaller I belted it and added a cardigan. I bought this purple belt awhile ago, and love how it looks all twisted up in a knot. Also, thigh highs are such an awesome alternative to tights. The think I love most about this dress is actually covered up: the back has a heart cut out. It looked kind of funny because of how baggy it was so I had to cover it up. You can see how the other girls styled it on the Delightful Dozen facebook page!
Anyways, last week when I said I got a new job as a visual merchandiser, a lot of people asked me what it is I actually do. I don't plan on having my job play much of a part in this blog (I like keeping it separate), so I figured I would keep my explanation on the short side. I love working with clothes and dream of one day being some sort of stylist, buyer, or creative services type, which is why this job interested me. I also don't work weekends, so yay! Basically my day to day includes conceptualizing and setting up window displays, dressing and (awkwardly) undressing mannequins, and working with the other visual merchandisers to decide how best to display new styles to maximize selling potential. I don't do sales, and my interaction with customers is minimal. I get to move around a lot (good for someone who needs to be moving constantly), and have a lot of creative freedom (meaning we don't work out of pre-designed directive books). For right now, it's the perfect job for me and I'm really enjoying the change of pace. I'm also really excited to have a commute again, I can read books on the train! It has been hard getting used to working full-time again after having the summer off.

Don't you just love the print of this dress? I love the little honey-bees mixed in with the flowers.
Happy Thursday!

Beautiful belt! I agree about purple, it's definitely one of the better fall colors.
Your new job sounds awesome! Are you doing the displays for the Newbury Street store? I walk by that 2-3 times a week. The commute is definitely nice, I love having the downtime. It just gets a little stressful later in the evening when I barely miss a train and then have to sit at North Station for an hour...
I love this outfit! I am so ready for fall. I am in love with your style. I look at many other fashion blogs but yours I can definitely say that your style is what inspires me the most.
Do you have a method for picking our your outfits? I Have so many things to wear but always have a hard time putting them together. How do you visualize your outfits and plan them out, because they are put together so beautifully. Keep up the great work!

Awesome, I go to grad school at the BAC right on the corner of that block. I have a hard enough time not spending all my money with UO right there, I suspect your AA displays will be hard to resist too. I'm seriously craving one of their skirts...
Lucky that you managed to get on! A little while ago, I managed to run and get on right before they left, but the conductor was in a bad mood and shoved Nate back off onto the platform (he was right behind me).
the dress is really pretty and the purple belt is the perfect accessory to go with it!
love your hair.

The way you tied the belt is GENIUS! It's almost looks floral/organic :)
You are an inspiration when it comes to mixing clothing & accessories, so I can see how you will excel in this new job! I wish I lived by you so I could see your work :)
Good luck to you, Julie! You've inspired me & my dressing so much, you've no idea!

I love this soft look. Gray tights, or thigh highs in this case, always feel so much fresher than black to me. I love the gray paired with the colors and delicate print of the dress, and the way you tied up the belt is so interesting and chic!

I was a merchandiser for Urban Outfitters for a while, and I loved it! I loved being able to work with clothes but not always have to interact with customers and do sales. I hope you really enjoy your new job!
I think I like this dress more in a Fall outfit than a Summer one, especially with that bright belt. YOu look so pretty!
Gorgeous dress. I also love what you did what the belt instead of tucking it behind it looks great :)

Love your style. Jealous of the Mass. weather...I live in Tennessee and it's still ridiculously hot here. I was actually in New England last week and absolutely loved it.
I'm starting to think I should get belts a size larger so I can learn how to tie them in all cool ways :D
yes, i DO love that dress! and, you've inspired me to get some charcoal tights!
I've been watching this dress make the rounds. It's so cute!! I love how you wrapped your belt into a pretty design!

Great idea with the thigh-highs! I have a pair and never thought to wear them as faux-tights. But now I will! ~ Katrina

Congrats on the new job! I've been doing visual merchandising for almost three years now for a department store. I hope you love it as much as I do! I would actually be really interested in hearing more about your day to day work and how you like it.
