Have a Happy Weekend!

Yay, it's Friday! Do you have any fun weekend plans? I have to work on Saturday, but aside form that we don't have much in the books, maybe another hike? Maybe I'll finally get all that film dropped off an developed! One of my goals this weekend is to finally get the upstairs of our house in order, get our little office set up, and maybe take care of the tangle of clothes on our bedroom floor.

The weather has definitely cooled down over the past few days, and as much as I love it, it also puts me in the mood for winter shopping, which I'm trying to resist. I've been very good about not spending frivolously, so let's just do some window shopping on the internet:

What is it about the impending fall that makes us think of darker colors? Shorter days? The desire to be cozy? I can't believe I'm even thinking about fall, but it's definitely on the horizon. I love incorporating booties with summer dresses, and it's a great way to introduce a little autumn to your summer wardrobe, without having to pile on the layers.

Happy Monday! Today , Monday is living up to it's reputation: it's cold (I had to turn on the heat!), dreary, and generally gloom and doom. These are some things that make me look forward to sunny June weather:

Mini Spotlight: Spotted Moth, Ruche, & The Spice Rack!

After the horrible weather on Friday, we're finally getting a little taste of spring around here. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping wildly. When warm weather shows it's pretty face, it's difficult to deny the simplicity of dresses. Sure they may not take any effort at all, no real thought is involved in throwing on a dress, but that is why I love them: after spending half the year in the cold and dark, spending countless hours finding the perfect equation of warmth x layers, I welcome the opportunity to wear one single item of clothing. Add some shoes, a necklace, and a bag, and you're done:

Spotted Moth is getting new dresses in almost daily. Wouldn't the Floral Rosemary Dress look nice with a brown belt and sandals? I love the unique lace collar on the Battenburg Lace Dress. The fiery red Claxton Dress would look amazing on someone with dark brown hair, I wish I could pull of red like that!

Ruche boasts a pretty amazing selection of unique dresses in a great variety of prints and fabrics. I'm in love with the Spanish Nights Dress, that print! those colors! I'm also loving lace and eyelet for Spring: the Dainty Darling Dress and Summer Dream Dress would be great for a graduation party or cookout.

Well, now I've done it. I've allowed myself to start thinking about Spring, a new season with new fashion. See, the problem is, spring won't be showing it's pretty face around here for another few months. Every now and then I'll spot my bin of spring and summer shoes in my closet and wistfully dream of the day when flowers bloom and the trees have leaves on them. This time of year is the perfect time for a vacation, allow some sun to touch your skin, and get some practice in your new must have shoes for summer:

I'm also predicting drape-y jewelry to be a big trend come the warmer months. Or, maybe it's just my obsession with the early 70's manifesting itself. I'm so excited to announce today that I'm ModCloth's Facebook ModStylist for this week! Since it's my birthday month and I'm determined to celebrate it in style for once (rather than just going ice skating and calling it a night), I styled an outfit that would be perfect for a wintery birthday fete. I loved the deep hues of the Everyday Extraordinary dress, paired with dark tights, and gold heels and accessories, it's perfectly 60's inspired and structured, but is something that I feel comfortable going out in and celebrating! My birthday isn't officially until the 27th, but I plan to celebrate all month!

Can you believe it's the Holiday Season already? I feel totally unprepared this year, it just completely snuck up on me! I finally wrote out my christmas cards yesterday and am finally starting to think about what to get everyone on my list. Being of the Christmas-celebrating-persuasion, one of my all-time favorite traditions over the years is Secret Santa. I love the process of picking out the perfect Secret Santa gift, its a great way to challenge yourself to see how much you know about someone. So, when TjMaxx contacted me to see if I wanted to participate in a blogger Secret Santa, I jumped at the chance! Not only was it one of my favorite traditions paired with one of my favorite stores, it was a chance to buy something for someone I didn't know, what a challenge! They sent me a gift card and told me I would be buying for Melanie of You Are My Fave and I was off shopping, I found some amazing things for my SS, and also some gifts for others on my list (aaaand, myself as well!).

After wrapping and sending off Melanie's present, all I had to do was wait for my gift to arrive in the mail. What a surprise when i saw that Melanie had me as her SS! Her gift was beautifully wrapped in gold paper, and tied with a pompom in my favorite color.

Clearly, I wasn't the only one excited about the pompom:

Inside, I found a Nine West bag, cozy mittens, Betsy Johnson tights (how did she know?), and chocolate! Thank you Melanie and TjMaxx!
