5 Tips for a Successful Closet Cleanout + Shop My Closet

It’s hard to believe that we’re already on the cusp of fall. I’ve had my coffee table stacked high with various September issues for a couple of weeks now, and while I’m trying my best not to wish summer away, I can’t wait for the shift in style that a new season offers, especially autumn. Layers, boots, and plenty of texture -- after a long, epically hot summer of one-piece dressing and sandals, fall makes the act of getting dressed feel fun again. If you’re like me and pack away your off-season clothes (a smart decision if you’re also dealing with a too-tiny closet), the cooling days of late August mean it’s almost time for the Great Closet Switchover; I’ll soon be rummaging through bins and boxes in search of the sweaters, jackets, flannels and boots I boxed up months ago, and making a list of the must-haves I hope to buy new or used for the months ahead. The transition into a new time of year also happens to be the perfect time to plan a major closet cleanout.

Over the past several months I've been working to streamline my closet (really hesitant to use to work "curate" here), doing my best to pare down to the pieces I truly love and that speak to where my style is at this point in my life. With autumn almost here, it's time to detox my closet once again. That's right! Shop My Closet is new and improved and finally updated! Since I'm headed to NYC this week, I kept the first wave of items on the smaller side, however there's lots more that will be added in the next couple of weeks!

The closet is now on a much more user friendly Tumblr site that allows you to see everything at once and all items are now shipped priority, which means that you will receive your items faster!

I cleaned out my closet yesterday. If there is one thing this blog has helped me with, it's saying goodbye to clothes that I'm no longer excited about. Sometimes its hard to say goodbye to something that reminds you of a coffee date, or the day you graduated college, but the clothes are not what's important.

So, if you've ever wanted to raid my overflowing closet, now's your chance! I started posting stuff about an hour ago and it's already going, so act fast! And I have more on the way: high waist pants, dresses, and skirts!

Shop Closet Update!

Ever wish you could shop my closet? Well, nows your chance! I spent the majority of my day cleaning out my nightmare of a closet and updated the Shop Blog this evening with a bunch of skirts, tops, dresses, and bottoms. I'm enjoying the extra room in my closet immensely and I'm sure my suffocated clothes are enjoying the room too. Below are some photos I took during the cleaning process, I thought my dresses looked pretty hanging from my bed-frame like that. Sorry though, these dresses aren't available in the shop.

Shop Closet Update!

After a brief hiatus, I just spent the greater half of the afternoon adding tons of stuff to Shop Orchid's Closet! Lots of skirts, vintage, and like-new pieces! Check it out!

Now that I have a printer at home, I'll be posting stuff regularly. including a bunch of shoes next week, so definitely check back.

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was great! For the first time in a long time I actually feel like I had a weekend. It can be really difficult to allow myself to relax and not worry/think about work and projects, and I typically have to work a lot of Saturdays at the College. But not this weekend! Saturday was nice but windy so Chris and I made a trip to Savers where I picked up this cute t-shirt dress by American Apparel (I also found a cute vintage kilt for winter, and a Dolly Parton album). It was perfect for a weekend spent doing relaxing things. On Sunday morning we rose semi-early and headed to the weekly flea market up in Rowley. I love this Summer ritual of ours, it gets us both up early and we get to spend some much needed time together. Chris found that beautiful stamped silver cigarette case, and I found a hanging planter for my growing collection of jade plants. The rest of the day was spent lounging at the sea-side park down the street, eating gelato, and snuggling cats and it ended at a roof-top pot luck with friends. Such a lovely time! Also, you may be noticing things are looking a little different around here! I have a new template which my amazingly talented friend Erica patiently created for me, thanks Lady!

Today's weather was grey and cold, a far cry from the predicted 74 degrees Weather.com was boasting today. Summer seems to be holding out on us! How was your weekend?

Shop my closet!

So I'm really excited to announce a new feature on Orchid Grey: "Shop Orchid's Closet". It's been something I've been slowly working on for a long time now, and the torrential downpour this afternoon motivated me to finally finish it (rain puts a damper on picture taking)! I recently came to the sad realization that it is virtually impossible to fit another single piece of clothing in my side of the closet (making Chris' nearly empty side look awfully tempting!), so it was time for a clean-out.

I'll be posting a few pieces a week- there are only about three items up right now- and it'll be a mix of vintage and new clothing. I have a huge amount to post, so there is definitely more to come!
