A La Apfel

So I've literally been on the computer from 9am this morning until now, which is 12:05 am...gross. I'm going to try and keep this short, because I really really really want to go to sleep!
Scarf: YoKoo via Urban Outfitters (4.99 sale)
Sweater: Thrifted via Goodwill- Davis Square, MA (3.00)
Tights: TjMaxx (4.99)
Shoes: Forever 21 (13.00 sale)
Bracelet: gift from Jen!
This is what I wore yesterday, I'm so thankful that I photographed my outfit too because it was 5 degrees F today- definitely NOT picture taking weather! The wind has been incredible, I'm so surprised we haven't lost power!
I built this outfit around the amazing handmade bracelet Jen sent me on Tuesday. She and I went to the Iris Apfel exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem a while back, where we saw bracelets like these worn (and made) by Iris herself. We both thought they would be super easy to make, and I love how Jen's version came out! I was really excited to wear it and wanted to keep the rest of my outfit relatively simple, to draw attention to the bracelet. I bought this super soft sweater at Goodwill on my birthday outing, I loved the texture and thought it would make a great dress and now it is one of my favorite pieces!
The Yokoo scarf is another item I bought on my birthday, we hit up the mega-sale at Urban Outfitters where I snagged it for only 4.99! I love how the lime color pops against the grey of my sweater. I paired the look with structural heels from Forever 21, I love these shoes and after some serious cushioning care of Dr. Scholls, they are now semi-wearable. At least in the office where I'm at a desk most of the day!

Well, I hope you all have a great weekend! Stay warm! xoxo

"It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it"- Iris Apfel

Who's had a busy weekend? Answer: this girl. So busy in fact, that it's going to take two posts to wrap it all up! This post is dedicated to my Friday night.
The Peabody Essex Museum is a fabulous local fine art's museum in Salem that hosts amazing exhibitions, the most recent being Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel. On Friday Jen and I attended the Night With Iris Apfel, where the "Rare Bird" herself gave a talk, along with a fashion show hosted by Modern Millie's vintage boutique. The crowd was decidedly older, which made for an interesting mix of people- many from the North Shore as well as quite a few folks who trekked up from Boston. Even though the majority of people there were over 50, we had such a good time! It was great to see Jen again and drink wine and meet new friends! We even saw a couple of people who will be participating in Saturday's Boston Fashion Blogger Mixer.

At the end of the night we even snagged a photo with Iris:

She was incredibly sweet and didn't seem to mind taking one more photo- even though she must have been so tired.
She called us "foah chicks".
Yes, she is wearing fuzzy car dice around her neck. This woman is amazing- I can only hope to be so fabulous when I'm her age!

Art Notes: A Must See

Now at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA:
Iris Apfel signifies what I can only hope to become: a true fashion icon for the ages. Her use of color and her signature round glasses embody her bold character. I just heard about this exhibition this afternoon and have Sunday plans to see it now. I can't wait! Visit the Peabody Essex Museum's website to read more about this fabulous woman!
