If "Eccentric Grandma" were the first words to pop into your head just now, thank you, you've pleased me. That's exactly what I was going for. I like to think that when I'm old and grey, I'll still appreciate crazy prints, layers of jewelry, and fun- if slightly more orthopedic- shoes. While I do love a simple outfit, sometimes I just want to be jingly and loud and smell like patchouli and sandalwood. I blame these competing sides of my wardrobe/personality on growing up in New England, in the woods. Surrounded by ex-hippies who also happened to like sailing and the beach, I can't help but love simple, slightly outdoorsy style just as much as I love flowing layers, long skirts, and batik.
Now that my hair is shorter and a few pounds lighter (an exaggeration), I've been a bit more apt to play with it and try new styles. Usually when I do Heidi braids, I keep them relatively structured and sleek, but today I wanted to try a more undone approach.

I absolutely love how you styled your hair, Julie! I never like anything too polished, so I really like how it looks a little undone. So soft and pretty!
Oh, and I know the feeling of shedding pounds by getting a haircut. My hair might be short, but it's really, really thick and I always feel lighter after a cut. I can only imagine how heavy your hair feels!
Eccentric grandmas are the best kind, so you have a lot to look forward to. You'll pull it off well :)
Julie! This outfit is soooo amazing. I wish I could pull off a kimono like you!
love your jacket

I'm dying for your bracelets. Also, I'm all about being a stylish old woman. I actually look forward to it...
Julie, this outfit is SO great! You look so beautiful too, the light is splendid. "While I do love a simple outfit, sometimes I just want to be jingly and loud and smell like patchouli and sandalwood." I relate to that so much! New England style is simple & classic LL Bean, and yet it's also crazy hippie caftans and birkenstocks. I've learned to just embrace that my style will constantly be at discord with itself.
That jacket is amazing! I just got a similar one and I wore it over a dress at the beach last weekend when it got cooler and my boyfriend was giving me strange looks haha

I love the top! Your hair is making me long for my long hair again, I am going to have to see if I can pull this off with my new shorter do'! I love this slightly undone version even more!
Julie, this look is so stunning and you look absolutely beautiful - love, love the way you've styled your hair!! And lately, I've been inspired by a more bohemian look & piles of jewelry... you carry off the aesthetic amazingly well. Hope your Thursday is a fantastic one. Smooches! V
This is SO cool. I can't get over it! You pull this look of beautifully :)
This is beautiful! I love that flowy little jacket. Your hair is crazy thick and makes that braid look really good!
Gorgeous! I've been trying to screw up my style courage to wear my kimono top; I thin you're helping to inspire me!
I absolutely love that kimono style jacket. So pretty!
Hi, please see my new site. Check out my next before last entry there. If you think it's important, please pass it on.
The outfit and the hair! there is absolutely nothing wrong with an eccentric grandma... I am going to try this style with long weave until my hair grows out! :-)
Love this! I have a coat that my husband calls Orbie because it reminds him of his old aunt Orbie and is covered in flowers so I hear ya! :)
I saw an older lady at the airport yesterday with the same hair style, so I would consider this look a success!
