Over the Weekend: (Re)Learning to Relax

Coffee. Baby yard bunnies. Lounging with cats. I'm not sure if this weekend could have been more perfect. I have a tendency to hit the ground running on days off, and not stop moving until the end of the day, at which point I've successfully run myself ragged. This productivity can be good at times, but it can also leave me feeling as if I didn't even have a weekend by the time Monday morning rolls around. I've been making the effort to get out of the house early and not give myself enough time to start obsessing over all that could be done in our apartment (which, honestly isn't much). So I make sure to go to the gym, grab a coffee and work on emails and blog stuff for a couple of hours on Saturdays, which is enough to leave me feeling energized for the rest of the day, and accomplished enough so I am able to cut myself a break for the remainder of the weekend.

This weekend was completely successful on the relaxation front. I grabbed a new book to read from the library (The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides), took advantage of the sun before the rain came, went out for cocktails with Chris, and started in on the long process of organizing my email inbox (a nightmare). I also finally made good on one of my new years resolutions and bought myself a racing swimsuit and started swimming, I'm feeling really good about this. How was your weekend?

(my Leah Goren IPhone case was kindly provided by Iconemesis, review to come!)

ps- there is one of the largest raptors I have ever seen sitting on top of that building. Not sure if it was a hawk, falcon, or something else, but it was incredible!

Beautiful pictures, I'm so glad your weekend was relaxing. Just letting things go, sometimes, is so difficult.

Hehe, love it both of our posts started off with a photo of coffee this morning... sounds like we had very similar weekends! ;)

And I couldn't agree more I always seem to run myself ragged on the weekend, but I'm definitley learning to relax, which surprisingly isn't always easy... I seem to obsess over work way too much! Hope your Monday is fab, Julie!! xo

Where did you get your phone cover...I love it!! And relaxing weekends are the best...I wish that every weekend was a three day one though--it seems like you need a whole day to unwind before you can start relaxing for real, ya know?

i was on a business trip to lima.... exhilarating, but exhausting. the town is vibrantly beautiful, but, onto a new work week, without any relaxing at all.

pictures of this racy swimsuit? please!

Blue Roses, hehe, i wish i could say the suit was racy, but alas, it's just a Nike racing one piece :)

It's always good to have those weekends where relaxation is the #1 priority. I'm a go-go-go kinda girl myself. Luckily, my husband balances me out and helps me to see that sometimes doing nothing is the best kind of something...

Glad you had a good one!

I just got back from a very short weekend in PITT, and I was amazed by the number of cute little bunnies I saw hopping around! Really, the wildlife in general was amazing. We saw bunnies, deer, geese, turkeys, among other things. It's so lush there, I can't wait to go back.

Chelle, let me know the next time you're in town and we can grab coffee if you want!

haha love your phone cover, you're the sweetest cat lady. and i'm the exact opposite of you when it comes to weekends- i seriosuly can't make myself move. i'm like a bed-ridden sloth. i've got so many projects that could be worked on and i constantly give them a cold shoulder on my days off haha. your energizer bunny type od dedication just might motivate me :P

sounds like such a wonderful weekend! I am such a morning person (as in wake up at 445 everyday) I love having those quiet hours to myself to get my day going --- I feel like I accomplish so much! I also love getting a morning workout in before anything else, an even better way to start the day! Swimming is one of the best ways to get exercise - literally works everything!

Glad you got a chance to relax. That weekend time is so crucial for my sanity. :) Let me know what you think of The Marriage Plot...I finished it a few weeks ago but am still mulling it over.

I'm not sure how close you were to Oakland, but you might have seen this guy ----> http://www.aviary.org/cons/falconcam_cl.php

There's a nest of peregrine falcons on the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt, and the National Aviary installed this camera so you can creep on them whenever you choose.
