Sensing a Pattern

In the few weeks since we moved to Pittsburgh, I really haven't done much thrifting... or shopping in general. When unpacking my closet, I came to the grim realization that my clothes and shoes are pretty much at capacity, with very little (if any) room to spare. So my new goal is to only purchase things I really, truly love. I know that probably sounds a bit silly, like wouldn't I do that anyway? But I think, especially with thrift shopping, it's a little too easy to justify a purchase because it's cheap, or unique, or just plain bizarre, and if you continue on that path, you just end up with a closet full of things you really- only sorta- love. So my new goal is this: I will still thrift, but I will do it mindfully, and I will still shop, but I will only purchase items that I love, and that are good quality.

So that is my new goal, a goal I kept in mind when I went on a little thrifting field trip this past Sunday. The place I went reminded me a lot of thrifting in Maine, the crowd was weird and the pickings we're slim, but what I found was good: This good-as-new vintage dress for a short $1.50! I have not found decent vintage at a decent price at a thrift store in a long
time, and this beauty is pristine: not a stain, or tear, or snag to be found. And while it is polyester, a fabric that I try to avoid as much as possible, I could not resist it's beauty. And I'm glad I didn't, with a silk slip underneath, the polyester effect was negligible.

With such a strong pattern, I didn't feel the need to over-accessorize (do I ever?), I kept things simple with a pair of earrings from Noble Town Vintage, who makes the only earrings I ever want to wear.
Hint: there might be a giveaway tomorrow...hint...hint...very big, obvious hint.

I love EVERYTHING about this look. Everything just enhances everything. Your blogger bun, bringing attention to the inverted triangle danglies, with the combo floral-geometric print on the dress, the studs on the F21 bracelet... Yeah. Love it.

thank you! I think this may just be my favorite outfit yet (which I sorta say about all outfits- but I'm serious this time!)

You know, just when I have no luck thrifting you post this gorgeous dress and totally restore my faith in thrifting again. GAAAAorgeous. And I love that little design on the hip, like it just can't let it go with the pretty design everywhere else, must add one more.

That is such a pretty dress and I think you're state of mind right now is a good one. I'm in the same boat...wishing I had all the money I spent on the clothes that I don't "love" so that I could buy the one item that I do. Smart thinking!

Honest to God perfection. And that is a totally worthwhile credo, if only we could all stick to just purchasing what we love - I'm also guilty of a closet at capacity, some of which I don't really love, per se.

your hair, as always, looks so whimsical, effortless, and elegant. i wish i could achieve such a chignon!

i always tell myself to only purchase that which i truly love, which seems to be destined for me and me alone, my closet also at capacity.... alas, one sour day at work, the weekend comes, and i am back to my old ways.

wow, that dress is an amazing find! definitely worth a purchase, even with some closet purging going on. :)

I've adopted the same set of shopping rules for myself now. I've got too much that I just keep cause of "convenience."

The dress is lovely.

I, too, suffer from lack of closet space and too many clothes. So I purge. Constantly. If I put something on and I don't feel absolutely awesome and amazing in it? Byebye. And I'm being pickier about my purchases, too. It's a good way to be.

That dress is incredible!!! Its got the most perfect colors. Just a quick thrifting tip, if you ever get the chance to go to State College (not far from Pittsburgh and amazing bbq on the way at Clem's) has an amazing place Rag and Bone on Calder Way....organized by decade! Only loveable things there. ;)

Such fabulous thrifting advice, and something that I really need to start doing more of, because you're right it's way to easy to buy stuff because it's inexpensive. As for the outfit?! Oh my goodness, amazing, that dress is SO beautiful, love it paired with those shoes & I WANT those earrings. Hope your week is lovely. xo V

I know exactly what you mean! I just moved and I've been looking through all my stuff thinking, there's so much stuff here! But I don't love a lot of it. There are may things I've picked up from thrift shops just because they're cheap! It's a good rule of thumb to try to only buy things you love!
