Into The Woods

Photos: Chris
Jacket: Urban Outfitters sale
Sweater: Thrifted (last year)
Button-up: VIntage Thrifted (2009)
Scarf: Thrifted (2010)
Riding pants: AA
Boots: Matiko via LF sale
Camera: Vintage AE-1 (mothers)

I think these are some of my favorite photos that Chris has ever taken for me. Sunday was such a beautiful day. My favorite late-fall sight is the sun streaming into the woods, through almost bare trees, to the leaf covered ground below; it's the perfect time to go for a walk in the forest. Though, that day we didn't get very far, Frick Park was much more than we expected it to be and we realized that we (and by we I mean me) simply weren't dressed right for a hike. From what I've seen, this park is amazing, I can't wait to get my hand on some snowshoes for the winter. We were so unfamiliar with the Pittsburgh area when we found out we would be moving here, we were both concerned about keeping up with the outdoor activities we enjoy, like hiking and snowboarding. While we still aren't sure what to expect for winter- we've heard mixed reviews- we were really happy to have at least found a place where we can get some light hiking in.

Sunday was one of those fall days where you can't decide if it's cold or not, so I wore lots of layers. I like to stick to pants on the weekends, but am a little sick of jeans, so I wore these stretchy riding pants per Chris's suggestion. After that, I just piled stuff on, no real formula. I found a spare roll of film (who knows how old) while unpacking, and decided to take my mom's old AE-1 out for a spin. I have five or so rolls to get developed dating back to summer 2010 (I'm a procrastinator), if any come out, I'd really like to share them on here.

As a Clevelander, I can tell you with some confidence that if you can handle New England winters, you can handle a Pittsburgh winter (they're a lot like Cleveland's). The issue in Pittsburgh in the winter is all those damn hills, which can make it sometimes impossible to get anywhere when it gets icy, but if you happen to live in a less hilly area, you're golden. Winter isn't as pretty in that part of the country (think lots of slush, very little New England beauty), but it's not going to be any colder, or anything, than it it here. :) Good luck!

Love these pics, of course. I wear pants like that nearly every day!

the soft browns melt into the naked trees, the carpet of leaves; you remind me a bit of a beautiful and vulnerable doe, exploring the terrain. i love these photographs, and this time of year as well.

This post is pure perfection. I love days like that, and the outfit is to die for. I've been thinking about getting those pants but I'm not sure if they are worth the investment. I hope the winter lives up to your expectations!

Pretty similar to the outfit I had on today :-) I just love the cosiness of it, so comforting! I agree as well, it is difficult not to fall back to jeans, but that's why it's nice to have some cool/different ones on hand. I have a pair of Twenty8Twelve faded skinnies that I am currently loving.

Next time you're in the Frick Park area, bring your film by the Squirrel Hill Rite Aid on the corner of Murray and Forbes Avenus. I work the photo counter from about four until about eight at night most evenings of the week. I'll be the redhead wearing homemade earrings and a Shift Supervisor name badge. It would be a pleasure to meet you!

Julie, I love the sound of the crunchy leaves under my feet. My pups and I go for a walk just about everyday in our woods behind my house....it is my sanctuary. Great place for photos and we've recently discovered deer back there. Have fun exploring, you look so beautiful. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo

Ah, the AE-1 is such a fun camera! I have one that my dad bought while he was in the military in the 80's. I have taken some of my favorite photographs with that camera. :)

taking long runs in Frick Park was on my agenda at least 4 times a week when I went to school in PGH. make sure you wander through it enough to find the little gardens that are scattered about. also, the flowers in Mellon Park in Shadyside are beautiful in the warm months. be sure to take some outfit pictures there!

Oh my there is soooo much outdoor stuff around here! if you are willing to take a little drive (ie an hour or 2) there is Nemacolin and Seven springs for ski/snowboarding and dog sleds. Ohiopyle is great for hiking and whitewater rafting, it has natural waterslides, plus fallingwater and kentuck knob are nearby! its actually like my favorite place in the world
