Hello February!

Moto sweater: Forever 21 ($19)
Cowl: Yarn Over Movement (giveaway)
Necklace: Black Sparrow (gift)
Bracelets: vintage, swapped, & F21
Boots: Minnetonka Tramper ($40)
(belt included with dress)
February has greeted us loud and proud! The snow started up around eight this morning and now it's really coming down. I love it though, working from home when it's snowing out is such a cozy feeling and I always seem to get more done.

This outfit is perfect for a day like today, so comfy for puttering around the house! When Ruche contacted me to see if I would like to try something from their shop, I was really excited. I'm a huge fan of their wares, and am even more-so since this dress arrived on my doorstep. I love maxi dresses, but as a girl of normal height (5'5") it's hard to find long dresses that aren't too long, luckily for me this one is perfect! It will be ideal for Spring, but right now it's cold out, so I layered Smartwool tights beneath and added some warm moccasins. I had originally planned to pair an oversized sweater with the ensemble, but I tried this moto sweater instead and liked the effect. I'm glad I tried it too, it almost went on my shop closet blog, but I think I'll save it for a little while longer!

I really can't believe it's February! This month always seems to go by so fast, given it's two to three days shorter than every other month, but even so, it flies. I have to admit, I hope the snow keeps up, I know I'm probably in the minority here, but it's beautiful and for someone who can't afford to do too much this winter, I enjoy just viewing the beautiful winter scenery.
On a side note, someone asked me yesterday where my Formspring went. For those of you who don't already know (I mentioned it a little on Twitter and Facebook), I was receiving an excessive amount of inappropriate/rude comments and questions. I like keeping an open forum, but when people resort to name calling and bullying, it's time to shut it down. As a blogger I realize that I put myself out there and not everyone will agree with what I'm saying, or like my style for that matter, but I'm still human and not matter how high my self-esteem might be, those rude (rude isn't even the right word for it) comments/questions still sting.

I welcome (appropriate) questions via email or in the comments section, and will either address them in a post (like this), in an email back, or in a comment in the same post.

To my readers who leave me encouraging, constructive, and thoughtful comments everyday: thank you! Your community is what blogging is all about!

You look AMAAAAZING. What a great maxi dress and your hair looks fabulous. And that's so shitty about formspring. Don't let those dicks make you feel bad--you have so many of us who just adore you!

I was wondering about your Formspring - I went looking to see if you had answered any questions about dry shampoo. I'm sorry to hear you were getting some nasty people over there.

I love the rose bracelet with this outfit, it's a perfect detail. I'm hoping for more snow too. I hope it snows REALLY hard tonight so I can stay home from work tomorrow. But it should wait until I get home tonight so I don't have a miserable time getting back from Cambridge.

I'm so glad to see you in a maxi dress. I'm the same height and have never worn a long dress because of my average height. I want to give it a try now.

I think this outfit is perfect! Totally perfect, right down to the moccasins.
Be sure to let us know if you do ever decide to put that sweater in the shop! ;)

I stand alongside you in hoping the snow keeps on coming. It's the only thing that gets me through winter. So beautiful. And, I really love that you're out in the snow for your outfit pictures!

From one snow lover to another, happy snow day!

Your entire outfit is amazing. All the elements mesh together so well! And I'm so sorry about the Formspring thing - that's really sucky.

Wow, I love everything about this outfit, especially that dress, gorgeous print.
So sad to hear you received so many rude comments on Formspring, I think everyone gets those, so don't worry about it!

I am so sorry to hear that you have had to shut down your Formspring. What the heck is wrong with people, good call on shutting it down and for staying so positive in light of the rudeness.

In any case I am a huge fan of your blog and style. And this outfit is fab-u-lous, lovey that dress! And you have styled it beautifully. Adore the denim jacket/cowl, love the pop of the yellow bracelet. And the shoes are yummy! xx veronika

well Julie I think the amount of nasty things you had to read as a lot to do with the splendid woman you are, they (the #2!$%&!) wouldn't shoot their hate to something invisible would they? You are a star, a sun in the blogosphere! You are great, kind, funny, smart, honest, original, creative, authentic, beautiful and a true inspirational force for all of us girls who read you. Even someone who doesn't is that much into fashion would love your style and blog because what you say when you dress yourself is that we are here to be ourselves. All of you posts have a genunine touch and some hateful unbalanced persons just don't know how to deal with the fact they are missing something in life. Thank you for staying the same.

I also totally understand that, although they are just %&&$$# floating on the universe, at some point it doesn't make sense to have the space where those kind of persons can drop those kind of comments. It as nothing to do with high self-esteem, enough is enough, right?

I usually don't comment on your blog, although I read it in a regular basis, but now I got upset how people take the time to hate and I don't take the time to say how much i like something.

So, I'm so sorry just to leave this words now just because you had to mention the formspring thing, but I think you are wonderful!

And you way of seing life and approaching style has touched all of us!

And you look beautiful and unique as always!

Love and luck,
Rita

I'm sorry to hear about the Formspring bullies. There are always people like that and, like you have done, it is best to just shut the operation down.

On a positive note, I adore this outfit. I LOVE your in a maxi dress. It seems so carefree - even with the snow coming down.

Oh boy, I've heard this before, I guess it's just people who don't have a life, ignore them, you have a wonderful sense of style, I rarely comment, but I follow and love your style. =)

thank you guys so much for being so kind, your comments are so appreciated and each one of them are taken to heart!

Such a same that you had to get rid of your Formspring account. It's really funny though--no matter how many wonderful comments you get the nasty ones seem to stick around. But I will say I see MANY more sweet comments than nasty ones.

Anyway, I absolutely love that dress and your cowl!

I noticed the ridiculous questions popping up on your Formspring - people can be so ridiculous and rude sometimes. I love this dress, however, and I agree - I'm loving the snow!

Love the cut of that sweater, and it adds just the right amount of edge to the long floral dress!

I've never understood the bad comments thing....everyone having different styles is what makes fashion so great!
I follow so many blogs, even if their style is not my kind of style. I just love to see different personalities expressed through clothing.
Whatevers! Don't waste a moment thinking about negative people!

So cool to see a maxi dress in the snowstorm! I love your bangle too. Sorry about the Formspring comments...people are so weird sometimes.

P.S. I'm wearing the chambray shirt I bought from you today, the post goes up tomorrow :)

Hey girl,
Thank you so much for the comment on my blog today. I haven't read the rest of the comments but I think you may have been the only one to bring up "Beth's" comments about my blog changing because I now have a boyfriend. I think that was definitely a hurtful remark, simply because of what you mentioned- so many bloggers went into blogging with a boyfriend/husband and are not judged when their lives/blogs go through changes that happen because of relationships in their lives. I would think it'd be ridiculous for my blog not to change now that I'm with Daniel, he's a huge part of my life and I'm not going to sacrifice my life with him for a blog, no matter how much I love blogging. I was pretty offended that someone thought I would "let a boy" change me like I was a 14 year old with a crush.

I guess I just wanted to thank you for your support, especially with that. I'm so excited about life right now! I wish I could make my way over to the Northeast, such a shame we live so damn far apart!

Becky said...

I LOVE this outfit!! That maxi dress is so cute- the pattern is amazing! And you wear it well :)

And I'm sorry that you are also receiving mean comments from readers. That's just not nice. I love reading your blog and if people don't like something then they should just keep it to themselves because leaving mean and hurtful comments are just not necessary. They just aren't!
Hope you're enjoying the snow!
