What I wore over the weekend...

Thanks for sticking with me last week as I took a brief break from blogging, there have been a lot of big changes in my life lately and I really needed to step back and concentrate on everyday life for a few days. One of those changes was that I lost my terrible, 5 year old Moto Razor phone last week, and have finally been forced to upgrade to an iPhone 4. I love it! The photos that I'm sharing below of my weekend activities (not my outfit) were taken with the camera, which is amazing. Along with a new phone, the biggest change is that I got a new job, too. It came about rather unexpectedly and I'm still adjusting, but I'm now working in Boston as a visual merchandiser at American Apparel. It's refreshing to not be stuck behind a desk all day, and to be doing something so drastically different from my last job. So, yeah changes!
Sailor Stripe T: American Apparel ($40)
Shorts: Old Cut-Off Jeans
Boat Shoes: Thrifted Sperry's ($7)
Bag: Thrifted ($10)
Anyways on to my weekend and my outfit! I love this time of year when you can wear thick sweaters and long-sleeves with shorts, this is the kind of outfit I could very easily live in. Even though this outfit is so casual I love how classic New England it is with the sailor stripes and Sperry Top Siders, perfect for an autumn day. That's right! My favorite season has finally hit, fall! While we were driving yesterday you could see the trees are starting to make the change!

I had a (mostly) relaxing weekend, yesterday Bea and I took a drive out to Northampton, MA to meet-up with our friend Sophia, who just started law school in Vermont. We hadn't seen one another for over a year and it was great to just walk around and catch up. We ended up meeting up with Brendan, and essentially eating our way through NoHo: Jakes for brunch, Herrel's for ice cream (I had burnt sugar and butter flavor), and then later a visit to Sweeties for candy and a visit with Ashley. This is why I love Northampton: you go to see one person and end up seeing everyone you know there! We lounged around on the Smith campus and walked to see our friend Eben's mural, who we also ran into later in the day! It was the perfect Sunday.

How was your weekend?

What does a visual merchandiser do?

Congrats on your new position as a visual merchandiser? Such a big difference from admissions. No more crazy fall travel season. Enjoy your new position!

Alex, the visual merchandiser is in charge of all the visual and mannequin displays in the store. Sometimes you will see the salespeople setting the displays based up on a book that the visual merchandiser provided.

I still have my Moto Razr phone and everyone keeps telling me to get out of the dark ages and get an iphone. Hmmm...should I take the plunge?

I adore your sperrys and the way them match you bag perfectly. Like you said, you're perfectly classically New England-ish right now. Awesome! Sweaters and shorts are the best combination ever. Congrats on your job! Hopefully it's exciting and fun.

Congratulations on your new job! Just wanted to say that I especially enjoyed this post because I'm a Smith grad and miss the campus so much! Lovely photos, and I'm SO JEALOUS of your Herrel's visit. Burnt sugar and butter (with butterfinger bits) was my go-to choice.

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend!

There's a lot of writing about American Apparel's treatment of employees and even more writing about the demeaning messages sent in their ad campaigns. I'm truly surprised that someone as smart and talented as yourself has chosen to work for them.

AA Visual Merchandiser!?
What an awesome job!

I really love the sailor strip tee as well. Hopefully it comes to my local AA outlet store!

Is your friend going to Vermont Law School by any chance? I used to work there while my husband was in law school and I would die to move back to South Royalton.

Just curious.

Okay so I've been following your blog for about a year now, but I had to come out of the woodwork to say I GO TO SMITH!!! and there's a possibility that I walked right past you and your friends near Paradise Pond this past weekend... this is so surreal! And Herrell's burnt sugar and butter is so good, although I'm more of a black raspberry person myself.

Also, congrats on the new job! Like some of the other commenters, I admit I'm a little curious as to how and why you ended up with a company whose financial stability (not to mention reputation) have seemed questionable as of late... but I'm sure you had excellent reasons and I look forward to hearing more about it! :)
