Dress Your Best Day 2!

Dress: Thrifted & cut ($3)
Belt: Vintage Thrift ($1)
Tights: Urban Outfitters ($14)
Cardigan: J.Crew Outlet (old)
Ring: gift from Punky
Shoes: courtesy of Vintage Shoe Love
For today's Dress Your Best look, I chose to focus on a body part that I never expected to ever really love: my legs. First, a little back story: I never thought much of my legs and knees, I ran track all through middle and high school but was never very fast. They were useful for snowboarding, and running and that's about it, but otherwise caused me nothing but grief. I've always had issues with my knees in particular, in middle school I collapsed getting out of the shower and found out it was because I had inherited my family's long ligaments. I had to wear a leg brace for a long time (which was uncomfortable) and every now and then my knee cap will dislocate (really gross, I know). Last summer, after installing a gallery show, I had severe pain in my knees for weeks and they had blown up to the size of softballs, I finally went to the doctor and found out that I had arthritis and bone spurs in both knees caused by untreated sports injuries. Awesome. Well, that was all the incentive I needed to finally take care of myself! I joined a gym, stopped running on pavement, and lost 15 pounds. Pounds that are no longer crushing down on my poor knees. So, I'm happy to say that I finally love my legs, they were the motivation I needed to take care of my entire body.
To highlight my new favorite feature, I wore a pair of heart tights and vintage black heels from Vintage Shoe Love. Heels are still tough for me to wear, but this pair is pretty low, and with some re-enforcement inside they're downright comfortable!

Wow after reading your story, I suddenly had a spur of appreciation and gratefulness for my legs. I feel lucky to have good health now.

I absolutely love the little heart tights! I'm so glad that your knees and legs are not causing you so many problems and are even a celebrated body part now!

Love your belt buckle so pretty! Ouch that sounds like such a nasty injury :( Glad it's all better now!

First, you look amazing. And secondly, I didn't know of your knee/leg troubles before now! It makes me feel better - to overcome silly things (like my jaw hurts, which is so unrelated) but that every one goes through annoying things like that that they overcome! I love that! (this is a weird comment, haha!)

arthritis sucks!! i know because my mom has it really severe on one of her knees. it gets really bad when the weather changes, especially when it rains. i'm going to suffer the same fate because i have knee pains every once in a while. anyways you look very beautiful and those tights are awesome.

I love your outfit, especially the bows on the shoes and belt!! I have feet issues, so I have a hard time wearing heels too, although I'm not ready to give them up! You are an inspiration for me to start taking care of my body too, somehow it always gets the shaft in my grand scheme of things :)

I really liked this post not only because the outfit is completely ADORABLE and girly and PERFECT, but because your story about now loving your legs reminds me of me (although I've just come to accept (kinda) my "logs for legs" aha) This is a really cool challenge and I can't wait to see the rest of your posts for it!

I think that they backstory that you shared about why you appreciate your legs so much is actually really awesome. But it also sounds extremely genuine. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.

during high school I struggled a lot with my weight and I always enjoy hearing people talk about issues that they have overcome that deal with weight!

by the way this outfit is adorable and the bow heels looks FABULOUS!

Love it! So sweet.

I like that you like your legs more for your health and that they work than because of how they look. I think it is so important to appreciate our bodies for what they do.

The tights are magnificent! At least the grief from your knees led you to put your health first! I hope they don't cause you too much pain anymore!

Oh wow, I never thought long legs could be a burden, but when you have arthritis it makes sense. You look so pretty in this outfit. It's an amazing mix of black and texture.

This looks utterly lovely! So nice to see you doing this and I find it particularly interesting that you're doing your legs today- I got diagnosed with arthritis at 13 and I'm still struggling to get it under control 9 years later. When my joints are swollen I am very self conscious of my legs! Its great to see you at ease with yours now. You look gorgeous!

It would be really easy to feel anger towards your legs after all of that suffering, so it shows just an amazing part of you to appreciate them for how they made you stronger and healthier! Also, they happen to be gorgeous!

(and I'm heading to Urban TOMORROW to get those tights. I have been dying for some heart tights, and these are fabulous!)

DYBW rocks!! It's so awesome to see everyone flaunting their favorite bits... for all kinds of reasons.

I love that belt! And those tights. I need some sheer tights for spring, all I have are opaque. And your knees look FABULOUS.

The story about your knees is amazing! Well, it's not amazing that you've had such problems, but that you changed habits and learned from it. I'd never thought all this has happened to you and I thought that your legs have been looking so good since...I don't know, forever :)
Very inspiring and motivating post. :)
