Have a Happy Weekend!

Yay, it's Friday! Do you have any fun weekend plans? I have to work on Saturday, but aside form that we don't have much in the books, maybe another hike? Maybe I'll finally get all that film dropped off an developed! One of my goals this weekend is to finally get the upstairs of our house in order, get our little office set up, and maybe take care of the tangle of clothes on our bedroom floor.

The weather has definitely cooled down over the past few days, and as much as I love it, it also puts me in the mood for winter shopping, which I'm trying to resist. I've been very good about not spending frivolously, so let's just do some window shopping on the internet:

Have you entered the Ruche Giveaway yet? It's not too late to get your name in! I absolutely love these sequin shorts from them!

Did you like my new shoes from Lulu's in yesterday's post? You can find them here!

I love this beaded dress from Bluesville, USA- perfect for a holiday party!

The new styles from Noble Town Vintage are so pretty! I'm obsessed with these earrings.

These cute little flats are so sweet, Blowfish makes the most comfortable shoes.

I loved Kaelah's tour of her bedroom, so pretty!

Have you seen all the wedding outfits on Delightfully Tacky? So pretty!

I love this simple bracelet.

I always love the challenge of bringing your summer wear into autumn. Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons, but layering is top of that list. I love that this dress from Lulu's can be a dress, a skirt, or a top, depending on how you choose to style it. Add some warmth with a sheer floral cardigan from Ruche, and a vintage knit from Pulp Vintage, sling a classic shoulder bag from Bluesville, USA over your arm and finish with a pair of contrasting heels from Ruche. Mini Spotlight: ModCloth, Ruche, & Le Mode Accessories!

Dress: ModCloth, Cardigan: Ruche, Bracelet: Ruche, Clutch: Le Mode Accessories, Shoes: ModCloth

This week's mini spotlight is wedding themed! I had a lot of friends ask me what they should wear to our casual, backyard wedding. So if I were to go to a wedding in the summer, this is the kind of thing I would wear: something bright and fun, and celebratory. I love this fun dress from ModCloth, paired with some simple, nude heels, also from ModCloth. A brightly colored bracelet from Ruche and fuchsia clutch from LeMode Accessories match perfectly as accessories. As a final touch, a cute lace jacket is the perfect cover-up for a night of dancing.

Mini Spotlight: Lulu's, Pulp Vintage, & Bluesville, USA

What is it about the impending fall that makes us think of darker colors? Shorter days? The desire to be cozy? I can't believe I'm even thinking about fall, but it's definitely on the horizon. I love incorporating booties with summer dresses, and it's a great way to introduce a little autumn to your summer wardrobe, without having to pile on the layers.

This sweet ruffle dress would look amazing with some black wedges from Lulu's. Add a black bag and sweet boater hat, and you're ready to go from summer to fall.

Mini Spotlight: Spotted Moth, Le Mode Accessories, & Bearcat Vintage!

Dress: Spotted Moth, Necklace & Owl Ring: Le Mode Accessories, Bag: Bearcat Vintage, Sandals: Spotted Moth

Can you believe we're already seeing fall previews? It's been 90+ degrees in New England up until today (a glorious 71), it's hard to even think about putting on a sweater in this heat and humidity. If you're itching for autumn clothes, there are still ways to incorporate those colors and styles in your summer wardrobe. One combination that I love, and that may go against some peoples "fashion rules", is the pairing of black and brown. I think it looks great! I especially love it when there are some pops of gold thrown in too.

For this outfit, I started with the It Girl Dress and Bastille Sandal, both from Spotted Moth. Next, I added some color with the Complimentary Contrast Necklace and Hoot Loves You Ring, both from Le Mode Accessories. As a final touch, I found this Vintage Leather Tooled Handbag (on sale!) from Bearcat Vintage . See you can have Autumn in the middle of July!

Mini Spotlight: ModCloth, Lulu's, & Bearcat Vintage

I wish I were wearing this outfit right now, aren't those wedges amazing? I'm obsessed! It's only Tuesday, and somehow this week has been crazy busy, I admit to falling back on the old faithfuls of shorts and T-shirts for convenience sake. However, this is what I would be wearing if I wasn't so frazzled. I LOVE the pairing of the cute lace top (it buttons up the back!) and chambray skirt, add some splashes of color with turquoise earrings and a 70's bag.

Perfect for: A mid-week lunch date!

Mini Spotlight: Spotted Moth, Le Mode Accessories, Pulp Vintage & Bluesville, USA

The weather is finally acting like summer, which means lighter on the layers and heavier on accessories. Accessories are an easy way to make a simple outfit more special, especially if you're focused on wearing as little clothing as possible because of the heat. I love the combination of a crop top and maxi skirt, the Shortbread Crop Top and Avocado Maxi Skirt from Spotted Moth look great together. Add some sweet earrings from Le Mode Accessories, a vintage belt from Pulp Vintage, and a bright handbag from Bluesville, USA, and you're ready for a fantastic day out in the sun!

Mini Spotlight: Ruche, Blowfish & Pulp Vintage!

Happy Monday! Today , Monday is living up to it's reputation: it's cold (I had to turn on the heat!), dreary, and generally gloom and doom. These are some things that make me look forward to sunny June weather:

A few items from Ruche that I'm loving right now: The Truly Inspired Top, Mint Condition Shorts, and the Feeling Sanguine Dress. So pretty!

I'm Kind of in love with these sandals from Blowfish Shoes: the Wren, the pretty purple Lowbow, and the Luster. Perfect with a summer dress!

Add a few patterned separates from Pulp Vintage: A sheer orange skirt, the perfect summer bag, and a peppy polka-dotted blouse.

Mini Spotlight: Spotted Moth, Ruche, & The Spice Rack!

After the horrible weather on Friday, we're finally getting a little taste of spring around here. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping wildly. When warm weather shows it's pretty face, it's difficult to deny the simplicity of dresses. Sure they may not take any effort at all, no real thought is involved in throwing on a dress, but that is why I love them: after spending half the year in the cold and dark, spending countless hours finding the perfect equation of warmth x layers, I welcome the opportunity to wear one single item of clothing. Add some shoes, a necklace, and a bag, and you're done:
Spotted Moth is getting new dresses in almost daily. Wouldn't the Floral Rosemary Dress look nice with a brown belt and sandals? I love the unique lace collar on the Battenburg Lace Dress. The fiery red Claxton Dress would look amazing on someone with dark brown hair, I wish I could pull of red like that!
Ruche boasts a pretty amazing selection of unique dresses in a great variety of prints and fabrics. I'm in love with the Spanish Nights Dress, that print! those colors! I'm also loving lace and eyelet for Spring: the Dainty Darling Dress and Summer Dream Dress would be great for a graduation party or cookout.
If vintage is more your speed, then I highly suggest checking out The Spice Rack. Not only is the selection of vintage amazing, but everything is named after food and candy. I personally love the Brown Rice Dress, the Grilled Cheese Dress, and the Fig Newton Day Dress. Are you hungry yet?

Spring Look Books

With the new season fast approaching (hopefully), it's time for new inspiration. Something I always turn to for new ideas are spring look books, it's not only a great way to see how you may wear something you're thinking about purchasing, but also helps with ideas on how to remix items from your closet that you already own. Plus, it's always neat to see how they stylists and art directors have designed the layout. Here are three spring look books I'm loving right now:
ModCloth has been releasing a new installment of their Wanderlust look book each week. I love how the images are asssmebled like a collage, and it's interesting to see how they've chosen the location to complement the clothes.
On the softer side, Ruche's spring lookbook is light and airy. I love how fresh and springy all the styles are, and as usual the photography is beautiful!
On a bolder note, Lulu's bright looks are all summer. I for one, can't wait to don bright colors again! let's go warm weather!

Where do you find inspiration for your outfits? Besides look books, I love looking at magazines and art books, and of course blogs!

Mini Spotlight: Spotted Moth, Lulu's, & Simple Thrift

Ahh, Spring is slowly showing it's pretty face around here! The sun is a little warmer, the days are a little longer, and we're slowly needing layers less and less. I love looking to my sponsors for outfit ideas, and I think it's interesting to see how you can take from so many different sources to make a harmonious outfit. Todays outfit idea centers around a nude monochromatic scheme:
Start with these items from Spotted Moth: a patterned crop top like the Eagle Scout Top in a sandy nude, add a maxi skirt like the Annie Hall belted skirt in a slightly varied shade, and top it off with a cozy knit like the Knitty Infinity Cowl (it's still technically winter, after all). I like the draped quality of this outfit, with the corresponding colors its put together but still relaxed.
To keep the outfit from getting frumpy, add some strappy platforms to add hight and polish, like these from Lulu's.com. My favorite for this ensemble would have to be a pair of black wedges like the Skid 8, but I also love the combination of natural wood and leather like the Jeffrey Campbell Ric. If you're looking for a lower heel, you could try the Isaac 43's.
Lastly, add a bag. I like the character of vintage accessories, they add just the right amount of "oomf" to an outfit. These beauties from Simple Thrift are perfect: the vintage wicker chain strap bag is perfect for summer, the explorer bag is great for books or school supplies, and a black mesh bag adds a little glam to the ensemble (click for something similar- and awesome). Remember you can receive a whopping 20% off your order from Simple Thrift with the code "ORCHIDGREY"!

I'm slowly getting an idea of what I want to wear this Spring, I really can't wait for flowers to bloom and leaves to appear on the trees again! Happy shopping!

Mini Spotlight: Spotted Moth & Bearcat Vintage!

I'm back! After being in NYC for most of last week, the transition home has been difficult, mostly because I've been hit with the worst cold ever. How silly of me to think I could make it through the whole winter without getting sick! Anyways, there's nothing like a little coughing and sneezing to make you think of Spring, huh?
Have you visited Spotted Moth recently? The selection of new accessories has exploded over there! With new jewelry, bags, and home goods, there is so much to choose from. Even more exciting, some of that jewelry is hand crafted. I died a little when I saw the Parade Necklace by Rebekah Vineyard, wouldn't it be perfect with a new summer dress? I expect you are all well aware of my purple obsession by now, you you understand why I'm loving the lavender and gold Bastion Bag and Starlite Express belt!
Bearcat Vintage is one of my favorite vintage Etsy shops, and it's not just because Jenny reminds me a little of Kim Gordon. Her selection of vintage pieces is superb, and I love how she creatively stiles things. In the last few weeks of winter, while were all still layering to stay warm, why not have a little fun with those layers? Don't you just love the Polkadot Bandage Dress? A sucker for leopard myself, I would definitely throw on the 60's Faux Leopard Swing Coat. And the 90's Grunge Patchwork Blazer would be the perfect light layer for a day of classes. See something you love? Enter the code "ORCHID" at checkout to receive 20% off your order through March 31st! YOu can't beat that!

Mini Spotlight: Ruche & Bluesville, USA!

I have officially made the mistake of allowing myself to dream of spring time, the floodgates have opened and visions of clear sidewalks, blooming flowers, and bare legs have filled my brain. I say this, of course, on the eve of another snowstorm that will cover everything with an additional 8 inches of fluffy white snow. Ah, but to dream! I've been slowly compiling a little list in my head of what I'd like to wear come spring...
Have you visited Ruche yet? I'm just about dying over all the Spring pieces that are coming in daily (including the maxi dress I wore last week). I'm looking forward to experimenting with longer hemlines this year, and I admit to being just a little obsessed with the Waiting for Love to Arrive skirt. It would look great with some tall shoes and a cropped top. The next two pieces would look great together or separate. I love the cute polka-dots on the Chocolate Chip Croissant Tiered top, and the Play in Gray ruffle shorts would be sweet with a loose spring sweater!
Bluesville, USA is a little gem of an Etsy shop. Stocked with unique bags, tops, and dresses, Amber is a girl who knows her vintage and brings it straight to you. The Toffee Satchel is one of my (and everyone else's) favorite pieces, wouldn't it be perfect for toting along to a job interview? I'm also loving the Burnt Orange Crinkle Button-up, and the Camel Ribbed Cardigan. Don't forget to enter the Bluesville, USA giveaway which ends tonight, and if you just can't wait you can use the discount code "orchidgrey" to save 15% off your order!

Sponsor Spotlight: Lulu*s.com & Noble Town Vintage!

Well, now I've done it. I've allowed myself to start thinking about Spring, a new season with new fashion. See, the problem is, spring won't be showing it's pretty face around here for another few months. Every now and then I'll spot my bin of spring and summer shoes in my closet and wistfully dream of the day when flowers bloom and the trees have leaves on them. This time of year is the perfect time for a vacation, allow some sun to touch your skin, and get some practice in your new must have shoes for summer:
I can't get enough of Lulu's selection of 70's inspired platforms, the higher the better. I've been in love with the sky high shoes since I received my first CD in 7th grade: Abba Gold (I'm not kidding), they add height to your frame, length to your legs, and are comfortable and easy to walk in. Plus, they look amazing with all those spring dresses waiting to debut in your closet. A few of my favorite styles from Lulu's: Delilah Tan and Leather Wedges, For Sure Tan Rainbow Heels, Ridgge Blush Wedge. It may not quite be time to bring out the spring shoes, but for now you can slip them on, pop in your copy of Dazed and Confused, and start dreaming of endless summer.
I'm also predicting drape-y jewelry to be a big trend come the warmer months. Or, maybe it's just my obsession with the early 70's manifesting itself. Either way, Noble Town Vintage has a fabulous selection of long and dangly earrings to accessorize with. My favorites right now are definitely the Turquoise and Copper Chain Earrings. I'm also loving these and these.

Lulu's.com and Noble Town VIntage are sponsors of Orchid Grey

27 on the 27th

Belt, Bracelet & Necklace: Vintage
I'm so excited to announce today that I'm ModCloth's Facebook ModStylist for this week! Since it's my birthday month and I'm determined to celebrate it in style for once (rather than just going ice skating and calling it a night), I styled an outfit that would be perfect for a wintery birthday fete. I loved the deep hues of the Everyday Extraordinary dress, paired with dark tights, and gold heels and accessories, it's perfectly 60's inspired and structured, but is something that I feel comfortable going out in and celebrating! My birthday isn't officially until the 27th, but I plan to celebrate all month!

If you have a question about how to wear any of your ModCloth pieces, I'll be answering questions through Wednesday on the ModStylist facebook page! Stop by and say hi, and ask me a question! And while you're there you can be a fan of Orchid Grey too!

Did you have a great weekend?

Gold paper packages tied up with string

Can you believe it's the Holiday Season already? I feel totally unprepared this year, it just completely snuck up on me! I finally wrote out my christmas cards yesterday and am finally starting to think about what to get everyone on my list. Being of the Christmas-celebrating-persuasion, one of my all-time favorite traditions over the years is Secret Santa. I love the process of picking out the perfect Secret Santa gift, its a great way to challenge yourself to see how much you know about someone. So, when TjMaxx contacted me to see if I wanted to participate in a blogger Secret Santa, I jumped at the chance! Not only was it one of my favorite traditions paired with one of my favorite stores, it was a chance to buy something for someone I didn't know, what a challenge! They sent me a gift card and told me I would be buying for Melanie of You Are My Fave and I was off shopping, I found some amazing things for my SS, and also some gifts for others on my list (aaaand, myself as well!).

After wrapping and sending off Melanie's present, all I had to do was wait for my gift to arrive in the mail. What a surprise when i saw that Melanie had me as her SS! Her gift was beautifully wrapped in gold paper, and tied with a pompom in my favorite color.

Clearly, I wasn't the only one excited about the pompom:
Inside, I found a Nine West bag, cozy mittens, Betsy Johnson tights (how did she know?), and chocolate! Thank you Melanie and TjMaxx!
To see what I sent Melanie, go here!
