Once upon a time, a vintage-loving girl found a pretty, green wool skirt at a thrift store, only to find that...

...it wasn't a skirt at all!
How could I resist? When I told my mother about this purchase, she just started singing "Free to be You and Me" and making Marlo Thomas jokes. Pallazzo pants were big in the 70's, which I'm sure was in my subconscious when I made the decision to buy them. The lesson here? Don't be afraid to try something new, even if it seems ridiculous, because these are crazy pants, but that's why I love them.

On a more serious note, if you haven't already, I strongly urge you to send a letter to your senator urging them to vote NO on the SOPA and PIPA acts. You can read more here.

That is awesome! I love when items have a fun little quirk to them like that! :)
Haha these are AMAZING! I love that these are gauchos, and that you were singing "Free to Be You and Me." They look so insanely comfortable too.
I love them! I also think the coat is pretty perfect too ;)

Love these! Perfect mixture of comfort (trousers) and femininity (because it looks like a skirt...)

CAT SCARF!!!!!!!!!!! MEOW!!
Aw, I love pants that look like skirts! =D I have a pair of shorts like that which I love because I get to fool people all of the time!
And thank you so much Julie for making your readers aware of SOPA/PIPA. My only suggestion would be, in order to effectively make their voices heard, is to edit this post to say call your Congressman/woman (link to the House website at House.gov) to stop SOPA and call your Senator (link to the Senate website at Senate.gov) to stop PIPA. Letters are great and awesome but phone calls (especially at this projected volume) will disrupt the office's operations and they will know the power of the people. Whether you do it is up to you and I'll still be a loyal follower =D
this is just flawless :)
i love the colors -- they have a way of being muted but so bright at the same time! does that make any sense? haha probably not.
still, gorgeous.

amazing...you pulled them off perfectly! pays off not to be afraid to take risks!
and that cat scarf is seriously amazing.
Oh my gosh, other people know about Free to Be You and Me?! We had the album and the book growing up, and I'm pretty sure it made me who I am today.
"A person should wear what he likes to, and not just what other folks say. A person should be who she wants to, a person's a person that way."
what an incredible vintage find, and brilliant sequence of photographs to reveal the surprise.... i was hoping a wide gaucho leg would emerge, and voila!
more importantly, THANK YOU for spreading the word and advocating for the SOPA protest.... it is crucial for us to unite and fight intelligently.

Hey Julie!
Thank you so much for opposing SOPA/PIPA on your blog - it really means a lot when so many other bloggers (to my knowledge) have just been kinda ignoring it. It made my day.
that is too silly!!! i hate when that happens when im thrifting!

Hahaha I love it! You styled them so nicely too. I really enjoy the cool mix of color.
Also, hooray for saying something about SOPA and PIPA. I wrote a whole post about it, but it seems like nobody has been bringing it up. It's so important though!
Gotta love 'em! I found some mustard coloured ones myself (as well, they were in the skirt section) just the other day!
I adore your style and your blog!
