Our Wedding: The Engagement Photos!

What he's wearing: All J.Crew except the shoes, the shoes are vintage and resoled
What I'm wearing: A ModCloth dress, Forever21 shoes, & a Spotted Moth necklace

Here we go, time to recap this shindig! For those off the grid: Chris and I finally tied the knot last weekend in front of everyone we love. Now it's time to undertake the task of recapping everything that happened! Since I'm still waiting to see all the photos, I thought I would start with our engagement photos!

Back in late June, on a hotter-than-hell evening, Spring of Spring Smith Studios came to Massachusetts to take our picture. Chris and I wanted our location to mean something to us, but also be fun, so we chose the Salem Willows Amusement Park & Casino (that description should be taken very loosely- it's an arcade). We have been taking photobooth photos there since our first date, so incorporating the photobooth was of top priority!

You can see more of our engagement shoot on Springs Blog, and on the Style Me Pretty: Massachusetts blog!

Backyard Family Time

Hello Orchid Grey readers! I'm Starr from A Thought is the Blossom, excited to be here guest blogging for Julie today while she and Chris celebrate their new marriage. I'm thankful that Julie left us with such a great topic to talk about before she left, because not only was it easy to come up with all the things I love about summer, but it was also kind of fun. What's not to love? There's late sunsets, no school (and thus, no homework), lake/beach trips, my birthday, shark week, my birthday during shark week (win for me!), sandals and sun dresses, and gosh, I could probably go on and on for days. . .

My boyfriend recently gave me another reason to smile about the summer when he brought home a ten-week-old Puggle as my birthday present! In the evenings when he gets home from work, we like to take Louie and our cat Monkey outside to play. Lately, that's when I've been doing my tripod shots. Jake will get the soccer ball out and kick all around me while the little dude chases him around. Needless to say, it's made outfit photos a lot less lonely and whole lot more fun. My boyfriend's usually a no camera/no facebook/off the grid kind of guy, but I tricked him into a family photo just for you guys!
Big thanks to Julie for letting me guest blog for her today, and CONGRATULATIONS on tying the knot!

The Sun Sets on Summer

Hello, everyone! Katy from Kansas Couture here. First off, a huge congratulations to the lovely bride and lucky groom! I can't wait to hear all about the wedding. Now on to my ode to summer. There are aspects of each season that I love, but there's something so singular about summer. Though my school days are long gone and my schedule stays the same year-round, that carefree vacation vibe permeates the season. The days grow longer, and there's no guilt in socializing till the sun goes down or spending lazy days at the lake. As much as I enjoy layering for cooler temps, summer lets you show some skin, celebrate simplicity and make the most of accents.

I wore this outfit for dinner and drinks on a warm evening last weekend. While there isn't all that much to it, I think the interesting print, chunky necklace, touch of neon and '70s platforms come together to make a statement.

As autumn approaches, I'm getting excited for sweater weather, but there's always that tinge of sadness as the sun sets on summer. Soon I'll forget the feeling and get swept up in hot cider, Halloween costumes, snow days and Christmas. Then when next year rolls around, I'll learn the magic of summer all over again.

Cheers to summer love and to the newlyweds!

Hello, Annie here of Time Enough for Drums bringing you a little guest post for Julie while she's out getting hitched.  As I'm sure you already know, Julie asked us guests to blog about summer love.  Though I'm happily single, I do have a few summer loves of my own.  First, this little dress.  Second, my brand new apartment.  I moved in just a week and a half ago, and this is a small sneak peek.  And third, my new city of Chicago.  I relocated here to begin graduate school at the end of the month, and feel so lucky to be in such a vibrant and exciting new place.  Lucky for me my sunroom has a breathtaking city view, which these days, I just cannot get enough of.  What are you loving this summer?

Let's explore together

Hi, Orchid Grey readers! I'm Tieka from Selective Potential. Not only am I super excited to be guest blogging for Julie... but I'm even more excited for why I'm guest blogging for her! I can't wait to hear all about her wedding and I'm so happy for both her and Chris. Marriage is the best thing ever... and I know they are going to have such an amazing life together!

When Julie asked us to blog about 'summer love', I thought I'd put together a date night outfit! Typically, my husband, Brett, and I go out to the movies, or explore lighthouses, or travel for our 'dates' but sometimes we like to get dressed up and head out for dinner! I've been wanting to try a lace bandeau under a lace top for a long time... and I like the way it turned out! Definitely a more 'dressy' and 'risky' outfit for our small beach town in Michigan though!

Just a note too: Julie has definitely been one of my favorite bloggers ever since I started. She's so sweet. I have absolutely loved being friends with her for the past couple of years. I can't wait to hear all about the wedding weekend and see all of the photos! Eee! Congrats again to Julie and Chris! Thanks for reading my guest post... and be sure to check out all of the other guest bloggers too!

My, how your garden grows

Hi, Orchid Grey readers! I'm Indiana from Adored Austin. Like Julie will be soon, I am married to a dude named Chris, too. One thing that Chris and I do together is garden. In fact, our garden is usually the backdrop for my outfit photos, but I've never really taken the time to write about what it means to us.

We live in Austin, Texas, and it is hot here. It's been well over 100ยบ every day for the last month, and the heat won't let up until close to the end of October. Even in the winter we rarely get nights below freezing, so this means if we plan well, we can garden all year round.
pepper
We grow mainly edibles: lettuce, corn, peppers, and lots and lots of basil. I make a killer pesto sauce.

jalapenos

We grow flowers that attract hummingbirds, too, and it always seems magical when we see those tiny little birds getting their fill of nectar.

Gardening is a lot like marriage, I suppose. Both require patience, care, diligence, and smart pruning of things that could harm it. Both give you things of nourishment and things of beauty.

Our son Jude is ten months old and he loves being out in the garden. Just today we caught him snacking on fresh basil.

The next time you're in Austin, look me up. I'd love to make you some pesto pasta.

My heart is full

Hey guys, Punky from Punkystyle.com here. When Julie asked me to write about "summer love", I got really nervous. As much as I love blogging about weddings, I'm really bad at expressing my feelings. We are now 3 days away from the first wedding I have ever attended of two really good friends. To say my heart is full of excitement for Chris and Julie is a complete understatement. I have been bugging them for weeks with unsolicited advice and handmade decor for their wedding. I'll probably be a wedding planner in my next life, which could be soon if I dont stop trying to "help". So I bought these two little heart pillows made from vintage chenille blankets because I thought they would be cute props for their photo booth, but this is the first Julie is seeing of them. Surprise!
