Vintage Maine

Chris and I collected vintage Maine (and some New Hampshire) postcards to use as part of our wedding, aren't the designs cool? My favorite is the 'Greetings from Lewiston' card, doesn't it make Lewiston look fun? it's not. My sister lives there and I guess it has a decent fabric warehouse and Stephen King lives there, but that's about it. I'll probably get angry "Lewiston is awesome" emails now. Bring it on.

I'm off to work this afternoon. Are you having a good day?

Lulu's Giveaway Winner!

Thank you so much to everyone who entered the Lulu's.com giveaway! Stephanie and I definitely had our work cut out for us, there were so many great entries! After narrowing down our favorites, we both kept coming back to one particular entry:

Orchid Grey x LuLus Contest
Congrats, Kaye!

Stay tuned for another great giveaway later today!

ModCloth's Who, What, Wear, Wed stylebook!

Have you seen ModCloth's new stylebook? It's so cute! Since I'm planning a wedding myself (I know I haven't been the best about sharing the details here), it's great to see some styles that could work for both an offbeat bride, and bridesmaids. My bridesmaids will be wearing pink, but can pick out any dress they want, and I know a few of them will be choosing ModCloth!

Would you wear a vintage style to a wedding?

May 24, 2011: Aubergine, Creme, Raspberry

Cardigan: J.Crew outlet sale ($10)
Chunky Necklace: Brimfield ($10)
Seed Necklace: Brimfield ($1)
(both vintage)
Lip and cheek stain: Stila for J.Crew
Thank you guys for the better mood wishes yesterday, I'm in a considerably sunnier mood than I was. This weather has just been so crappy! Although the later part of the week looks like it might perk up, here's hoping.

Last Wednesday Chris and I had something special planned: back in March I bought us tickets to see Steve Martin (yes, that Steve Martin) and the Canyon River Band play at Merrill Auditorium in Portland Maine. I got the tickets as a late anniversary present to ourselves, and it was SO worth it. We decided last minute to get a hotel, and ended up staying at the Eastland Park Hotel right downtown. You know back in March I had these grand delusions that we'd have sunny late spring weather by May 18th, we could stroll around downtown and leisurely make our way to the show. Boy, was I wrong! It was cold and misty and more like March than anything else! I'm really happy that we stayed where we did though, the hotel had a shuttle right to Merrill. The show was the best I've been to, a great venue and the right amount of comedy vs. fantastic music.

I've had this dress for a few weeks now, but knew I wanted to save it for something special. It was the perfect thing for our night out. I paired it with a favorite pair of shoes, a light linen cardigan, and some vintage necklaces I picked up last weekend in Brimfield. Even though the weather was the farthest thing from spring, I still felt like I was dressed for the season and the occasion.

May 23, 2011: Grey, Creme, Gold

Trench: Forever 21 ($20)
Dress: J.Crew
Belt: Thrifted ($1 old)
Necklace: Madewell ($15 sale)
I have to admit, I'm not in the best mood today. Monday is rearing it's ugly head, so I'm holding off until tomorrow to post about our trip to Portland, ME last week (and until I feel less pessimistic). I got called into work this afternoon, and sometimes I just have a really hard time adjusting when the direction of my day suddenly changes. Does that ever happen to you?

Anyway, how was your weekend? Mine was extremely productive. This is the outfit I wore on Friday, on the first sunny day we've had in about two weeks. I admit that it was a little cool to not be wearing anything covering my legs, but I was at work for most of the morning, so I was plenty warm. When this dress came in the store last week, I immediately scooped it up. Good thing too, because it sold out in a day, it's that cute. I added a belt to dress it up a little, and a gold necklace to tie in the gold belt. I know I've said it before, but the Casita sandals are the best shoes. They're perfect for work because they're dressed up but I can stand in them comfortably for hours.
Hope your monday is better than mine! Blargh.

Cat Friday: Meet Louie!

Meet our fluffy friend, Louie! He's staying with us while our friend Hans gets settled in his new home of Austin, TX. Introducing a new cat to our household was not an easy feat. For awhile Louie hung out in our bathroom, waiting to meet the Z's. Zephyr liked to sit outside the bathroom and hiss at him through the door, while Zeb just wanted to get a good look. Slowly I got them to play a little together under the door, and eventually Louie made his debut. Things were tense for a few days, and then for a little while all seemed well, but unfortunately Lou had a case of the nerves and he's back in the bathroom recuperating. He does get along great with Zeb and Zephyr now though. The best part of a fluffy orange cat? Belly rubs.

May 18, 2011: Khaki, Blue, Creme

Trench: Forever21 ($19)
Dress: American Apparel (old)
Belt: J.Crew Sale
Tights c/o ModCloth
Necklace: Madewell ($7)
Bag: Vintage from Brimfield ($30)
vintage shoes c/o Haberdash Vintage
Yep, those are tights. Tights in May. Seriously? I had to turn the heat on monday morning, and again when I came home at night. Say it with me: WTF? I was really looking forward to putting the tights away, but really wanted to wear a dress to work. Oh well, it gave me a chance to break in my new shoes from Punky which I'm totally in love with. See the crepe sole? I'm dying. Despite having to wear tights, I love this outfit. Along with my new shoes, this vintage purse is one of my new favorite things. One of my Brimfield finds, it was a little pricy, but worth it in my opinion.

The weather has been cold all week! Chris and I are up in Portland today celebrating our anniversary a month late by seeing Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, having dinner, and staying at an inn. Have a great Wednesday!

May 14, 2011 (Swapday): Black, Creme, Yellow

Photos: Kev
Top: Vintage thrift ($3)
Pants: H&M ($9)
Necklaces: Madewell & Black Sparrow
Bracelets: Borrowed from Punky
What I wore to the Swap: really comfy clothes. It's been flipping cold lately and all I wanted to be was comfortable, and that's what I got. I've been looking for printed trousers at thrift stores lately but haven't found any to my liking, but I love these cheap-os from H&M! Mainly I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a trend i wasn't sure I would like, I like the printed pant look on others, but I'm more of a jeans, skirts, dresses girl.

This outfit was perfect for what the day brought with it. I got up early, helped set up for the swap and then got to swapping (and then cleaning up). This outfit was easy to move in and kept me at a generally good temperature throughout the day. To add a little color to the black and creme, I threw on some of Punky's woven bracelets. I also cannot recommend the Casita wedges from Blowfish enough, they are the perfect height and super comfortable.
Ps- a BIG thank you to Kev of Jenloveskev for the photos!

Over the Weekend Part 2: Canal District Swap & Shop (more photos than Brimfield, I promise)

Another great Swap in Worcester on Saturday, which became known as Little #Swapday due to all the other Swaps happening at the same time (Atlanta, GA, Portsmouth, NH, Sacramento, CA). I always enjoy the Worcester Swaps, they're a little less insane (but really only a little). We arrived early to set up and get sorting and it wasn't long until the line started growing.
Photos: Adam Towner (thanks, buddy)
I'll have my official Style File tomorrow, but this is what I wore. And it seems no Swap is safe from ridiculous outfits...ahem...CHRIS.

I saw five bags worth of my stuff find new homes (and I suspect it won't be long until I see it popping up around the blogisphere, Jen and Hilary!) which was extremely cathartic. I've been getting rid of so much stuff lately and it feels great to see it go to someone who'll give it new life.

To find a Swap event in your area head to the brand new events page on Swap.com!

Over the Weekend Part 1: Brimfield (fail)

Sometimes I'm really bad at documenting what I'm up to. Like this past friday for instance. It was actually quite busy: our friend Eric came down from Maine, we drove to Shrewsbury and met up with Adam and Punky, and then on to the Brimfield flea market where we were joined by Jen and Kev (and sweet Rowan). But what did I document? the fun? the food? the festivities? no, none of that. I made sure to document the Bikini For Men. Priorities people.

What I got at Brimfield: three necklaces, a purse, and a woven table-decorative-thingy (none of which are pictured). Stay tuned for photos of Saturday (I promise there's more than one). Oh and we also went to a show at Ralph's in Worcester Friday night, where i realized that I'm old and can't stay up past 11 anymore.

Mini Spotlight: Ruche, Blowfish & Pulp Vintage!

Happy Monday! Today , Monday is living up to it's reputation: it's cold (I had to turn on the heat!), dreary, and generally gloom and doom. These are some things that make me look forward to sunny June weather:

A few items from Ruche that I'm loving right now: The Truly Inspired Top, Mint Condition Shorts, and the Feeling Sanguine Dress. So pretty!

I'm Kind of in love with these sandals from Blowfish Shoes: the Wren, the pretty purple Lowbow, and the Luster. Perfect with a summer dress!

Add a few patterned separates from Pulp Vintage: A sheer orange skirt, the perfect summer bag, and a peppy polka-dotted blouse.

New Delightful Dozen Post!

I have a new post up on the Delightful Dozen blog today! It's cold and windy out, but that's not stopping me from dreaming of summer. You'd think with my obsession with sunny and hot weather, I'd smarten up and move already...I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.
Hey! It's Tuesday!

May 9, 2011: Blue, Silver, Black

Dress: Swapped
Belt: Swapped
Shoes: F21 ($13)
Silver bracelet: Vintage (really old)
Leather spike cuff: Old (high school)
Happy monday! How was your weekend? Mine was fine, I worked most of saturday and sunday seemed way too short. How is it that sunday flies by? It's my favorite day of the week, but it seems to only be a few hours long.

Last night Chris and I went to a vintage style cocktail party hosted by a friend. I somehow managed to completely miss the fact that it was a 50's theme however, and went with more of a Boogie Nights look. Oh well, it was worth it. I've been savng this dress for a warmer day, it's completely unlined and somewhat see through, but I love it. I got it at one of the past Swaps, and I think it used to belong to Sami of A Glimpse of Glamour. But if you follow me on Twitter, you may know that someone with a taste for destruction got his little claws on it. I didn't notice until we got in the car that the right side was pretty shredded, another reason why pleats are so great. Also, anyone have experience with those claw caps? Do they make your cats miserable? I'm pretty sick of finding shredded clothing and threadbare furniture.
Are we friends on Twitter yet? How about Facebook?
