October 19, 2011: Live Free or Die

Bracelets: Forever 21

Well, Chris and I are back from the saddest weekend ever. Goodbyes are never easy, and when you're from a place where you can see your whole extended family within an hour, and all of your oldest friends, those goodbyes are even more difficult. After a great couple of days with my brother down here, we trekked up North to see family and friends before heading out on our new journey. We saw just about everyone we wanted to see, though for a shorter time than desired, even though we'll be back for Christmas (only a short couple of months away) it was still rough. While in New Hampshire & Maine, we made sure to visit all the places we love, including Cathedral Ledge. Chris and I used to take picnics up here all the time when we lived in NH, and I think it's one of the most beautiful look-outs, especially in the fall. It's strange leaving New England, I feel like being from northern New England is such a strong part of my identity, it'll be weird not living here anymore.

I've pretty much been living in this outfit lately, I bought this sweater last weekend and I love it so much, it's so easy to just throw on with jeans and be done with it. Crisp fall days are my favorite, I love being in a cozy sweater and jacket and tramping through the woods.

I almost bought that sweater in gray this weekend! I went with a "merino sweatshirt" instead because it was softer, but this looks so cozy on you!

Goodbyes are hard, but Pittsburgh sounds great, and if the opportunity is what I'm thinking it might be, then congratulations, and I think it's going to be totally worth it!

Wow rally beautiful place. There are so many parts of the USA I want to explore. The sheer scale of the landscape never ceases to amaze me.
Sorry about the sadness but I can't wait to hear what your opportunity is! I live 5 hours or so away from my family and it can be tough but you really do appreciate each other. Good luck with the new start!!

Goodbyes are the worst! I totally understand how you feel. I'm a bit of a wanderer, so I find myself saying goodbye to loved ones more often than most. It never gets easier. You are very brave for leaving behind your family and friends to pursue what can only be an amazing opportunity!

And, I'm a New England girl at heart, too. I will always feel a strong connection with that area of the country no matter where I live.

being from MA is a big part of my identity, and it still is, even though i have lived in 2 other states over the last 6 years. i never lived outside of new england until i went to grad school (in pittsburgh!). your new city (which has become my home away from home even though i live in another city now) has a lot in common with parts of new england-- that mill/industrial feel, the neighborhood-y-ness, even the scenery (despite being landlocked and nowhere near the ocean).

i really love the gold bracelets, they are an interesting and harsh juxtaposition with the sweeping natural landscape and the soft fabrics of the sweater and jacket.

Have a safe move. I'm sure you'll settle in to your new city in no time.
Btw, I'm glad you're back to naming your posts with phrases rather than colours. It just seems so much more inspiring.

I need a coat like that in my life! I've got a couple of warm dressy coats, but I need something like this for more casual days out. You look great.

I also have strong ties in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire (where I'm from), and I can totally understand how you feel that New England is a part of you. It's good you feel strongly about where you're from so that you can always bring that part of you wherever you go.

I'm sad you're leaving New England (as you are the only blogger from the area I follow), but your new opportunity sounds amazing!

Best of luck with the moving process!

I did a same scale huge move 7 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I miss my family and the distance is still sometimes a little hard but I wouldn't change my decision, ever. good luck!

I love your outfit!!

My husband and I moved a few months ago from Tennessee to NYC. It was tough to say goodbye, but just remember that everyone is a Skype call away. :)

Saying goodbye is a horrible thing to do, best thing is to pretend you don't have to say goodbye because you're going to see each other again. Good luck in Pittsburgh!

Love your outfit, this is so much easier than the constant layering.

lots of love, Femke On the Button

I hope you're getting settled into your new place in Pittsburgh! I've lived here for a little over a year (Lawrenceville- check out Pavement and Wildcard, also Espresso a Mano is the best coffee shop in the whole world) and I'm finding myself settling in quite nicely. I'm sure you're going to love it here. Best of luck!
