I've been a bridesmaid before, so when planning for my bridesmaids, I made a point to think back to what made being a bridesmaid great when I was one (helping a friend plan one of the best days of her life), and not so great (an expensive dress that still hangs in my closet). Since our wedding was going to be more garden party casual than black tie, I chose a color (pink) and then let my bridesmaids choose a dress, any dress, in that color family. I sent along affordable suggestions as I found them, but when it came down to it, each girl chose a dress that they liked and felt comfortable in. As a gift, I picked out necklaces from Etsy that had the first letter of each of their names on a letterpress block. For his groomsmen, Chris chose a more uniform ensemble, but I think they all looked great. He special ordered blue Vans Authentics through the store he works at, and as an added touch of pink they each wore a small boutonniere.

Someone asked in one of my last posts why I didn't end up wearing the orange and pink heels that I originally planned to wear: unfortunately we had some rain the week of the wedding and the ground was too soft to walk in stilettos on, I would have aerated the lawn!

the photo of you smoking a cigar is totally priceless! i agree with i-zilla's comment.. ladylike and badass. i totally love your choice to let your bridesmaides pick their own dresses. that way everybody is comfortable, the dresses suit all their different body types (instead of trying to force several women's bodies into one silhouette that works for them all - damn near impossible), they all look true to their own personalities, and there is still a sense of unity through the color scheme. gorgeous! also, is there anything more handsome than a man in suspenders? i submit there is not. ;)

Oh so fun, I especially love the guys outfits!!
i love it! definitely garden party inspired. and i like that chris looks so different from his groomsman. a pet peeve of mine is when you can't figure out who the dude getting married is.
You had so pretty wedding!
all the pinks looked lovely together, and I'm sure the ladies appreciated being able to pick their own dresses :) plus I'm diggin' the cigar photo--badass chic!
I love it! You look beautiful, as does your bridesmaids. I did something similar - and gave my bridesmaid a color (fuschia, purple, blue and yellow), and asked my bridesmaids to find a dress in that color. They matched perfectly with my flowers and other decor, which were the same colors. And I didn't want to burden them with an expensive dress that may not be suited for them.
i love all of the fun colors of the bridesmaid dresses!

I am doing the same thing for my bridesmaids- letting them pick their own dresses. I've been a bridesmaid 10 (!) times and didn't want to force a $200 dress on them. Our colors are black and white and so they'll each pick their own black dress. And who doesn't need a great LBD in their closet? Wonderful pictures! I really love the mens' looks.
xo,
Sarah
