March 14, 2011: Chambray, Bone, & Navy

Shirt: J.Crew Outlet ($20?)
Jeans: Madewell High-Rise
Necklace: Black Sparrow (gift)
This is, hands down, my favorite kind of outfit. Simple, comfortable, but with a little kick. The kick this time being some amazing shoes from Lulu's, I love these Jeffrey Campbell wedges, the monochromatic tassels strike the perfect balance between dressed up and minimal, plus they're easy to walk in. Sometimes I find myself feeling trepidation upon posting such a simple, possibly unstyled outfit, do you ever feel that way? I think sometimes with blogging comes the feeling that you have to wear a lot of layers, jewelry, prints, etc. for an outfit to be considered blog-worthy. But we can't dress that way everyday, or at least I can't, and the simple days are usually my favorites. I find I feel most beautiful in a simple button down or t-shirt with jeans, and maybe some cool shoes. It may be that I'm just so sick of wearing so many layers, seriously dressing in the winter takes so much thought. I love the simplicity of getting up in the summer and throwing something on. I like to keep my make-up simple too, usually with just eyeliner and mascara, but today I added some bright pink lip color to shake things up a bit.

How was your weekend? Ours was perfectly relaxed, we went to brunch, finished the guestlist for our wedding, played some Scrabble, and watched Gosford Park (love that movie!). As much as I love our laid back winter weekends though, I can't wait for the adventures that come with summer. I'm so excited to go to the beach, go hiking, etc.!
Hope you're having a good monday!

WOOOOWWW!!! This is one of my most favorite outfits from you!!! I've been reading your blog for quite a long time and this is the first time I comment, exactly because I ADORE this outfit! I love its simplicity, it's really really gorgeous! The jeans look awesome on your skinny legs and this shirt is so so pretty, I love that you rolled up the sleeves, making the whole outfit kinda more nonchalant! Plus these JC wedges are SO TO DIE FOR!!! You're right the monochromatic tassels are amazing!

Your hair is so so so so beautiful!!! It looks STUNNING in these pics! YOU look stunning! I saved these pics in my inspirational folder, hope you don't mind :)

Love this outfit Julie, it's so true that we can sometimes think that an outfit is not "blog worthy," if it's not super fancy. BUT this outfit is most definitely worthy, love it with those amazing shoes & you look gorgeous as always. xx veronika

the first thing i thought when i saw these pictures was "this outfit is so simple, but that's why it works". you can't go wrong with skinny jeans, some heels and a big shirt. plus your gorgeous hair. love it.

Every single time one of my favorite fashion bloggers mention that an outfit is "boring" or "un-blogworthy", I can also guarantee I will love it more than their usual posts. I definitely feel the most comfortable and confident in a casual outfit with a twist, exactly like this!

If I still blogged about fashion or my journey through not looking like a boring slob anymore :( I would be posting simple outfits like this all time. It reassures me that I don't need to have the fanciest, most elaborate get-up when I leave the house every day to look good. It love it, and you look great!

I know what you mean. Blogging (unintentionally, I think) sets unrealistic standards. And a lot of bloggers actually manage to meet those standards (but I have a feeling they're not peachy the whole time) I love this outfit! :) No worries <3

I feel that way all the time. there's just so much "pressure" to have a blog-worthy outfit, sometimes you forget about comfort.

Thanks for posting this. & what you said about it- such a breath of fresh air! So relatable. Those JC wedges are amaaazing. I'm saving for a pair of Jeffrey Campbells, but I just need to pick one! Lastly, I love the lip gloss.

guh, i'm ALWAYS feelng like i'm not dresing up or styling enough when i take pictures for my blog. but the reality is, just it's not possible to dress that way all the time.

it DOES take a lot of thought & energy to put together an outfit- sometimes an hour or more for myself!

but i do love this look anyway. so clean. you'll look good no matter what you wear! xo

I love this look. i think it is simple while still being stylish. That's how I dress most of the time, so it's always refreshing to see ways other people dress on a day to day basis.

I know what you meet about feeling the need to layer and pile on accessories to make something blog worthy, though.

I think pulling out the simple stuff is definitely a symptom of spring. As the weather improves this year, I find I just can't stand the thought of tights (all stretched out my now and trying to slide down my legs, slips, shirts to wear under my dress.... bah!

I bought my first every skinny jeans and have basically been wearing this very outfit all week!

I love this outfit! Hey, I'm not sure you have time to read every comment, so I wanted to email you but I cannot find your email on your blog; is it listed at the top?

Well either way, I'll just tell you here- I recently did a blog post all about 60's/70's fashion and I used you as one of my examples of bloggers who incorporate old trends with new trends to make an amazing look! :) I put up a few pictures from your blog and left a link to Orchid Grey so people can come check you out from my site.

If you want to check it out I would be delighted! http://makersofshoes.blogspot.com/

I love this outfit! Simple but chic. I really love it. My weekend was crazy...my museum (I run special events and group sales), hosted our Annual SIP Wine & Food Classic...so the weekend was wine and food. And our Helicopters company was looking at ways to help out in Japan...we're currently sending a couple helicopters and a 747 Boeing Super Tanker! So weekend...it equals: wine, food, helicopters, super tanker...Kinda hectic:)

Simple yet chic. I think the outfits we are always feel like that aren't blogworthy are the one of the best outfits-because it shows through your pose and face how you feel in your outfit. And honestly, isn't it all about how you feel in the end?

You look great. Simple as that. =)

I actually think it's very refreshing to see a blogger post up a pretty casual outfit now and then. You're right, we can't dress up and layer on every.single.day. We need some inspiration for all those other days, too. And think this is great! I love the chambray, and my goodness those shoes are to die for! :]

In my oppinion this is one of your most beautiful outfits and you also look so relaxed! I also love simplicity, but I never manage to find this small gap between relaxed with style and relaxed with no style.

wikigirl said...

I love the simplicity of this outfit! Where I live it's almost impossible not to be simple, way too hot for layers :) My weekend was lovely, I spent a few hours in a ski shop buying our thermals/coats for our trip to the US and was thoroughly confused!

I think simple, understated outfits like this are beautiful and refreshing! You look amazing, and I absolutely love those shoes.

Thank you so much for your comment last week - hearing from you made my day!

Soooo when buying Jeffrey Campbells online, how should one go about sizing? Are they true-to-size or do they generally fit smaller/larger than normal?

Emmzz said...

I actually love this outfit! And your so right about wearing less for a blog, it always feels like you have to dress an outfit up! I just like to wear a simple shirt and boyfriend jeans most of the time! x

I really like the simplicity of this outfit! I especially like your shoes - they add that extra something to this outfit

I love uncomplicated looks, and I often feel the pressure to add something more just to make it blog worthy. I'm happy you didn't change a thing about this look - I love it! Those shoes are amazing; I can't wait to see what you wear with them next.
