Heidi braids have been my go-to style lately (as evidenced by yesterday's post). They're easy, keep my hair out of my face, and relatively painless. I did these kind of fast, they can be as messy or as sleek as you would like. For this style you will need: A comb, bobby pins, invisible hair bands, and some hairspray. Have fun and send me a link if you try this!

How do you keep it from poofing out at the spot wear you pull the braid up? Do you bobby pin all that down?
Jennifer, braid it tightly against your head and there will be less of a bump. Also you may need to use some additional Bobby pins to keep it neat.
Ah super useful. I think my hair is actually long enough to try it ♥

Super! I have long side swept bangs and I have long hair like yours. I like to braid all of my hair opposite my bangs and do one braid that I swing over the top of my head ala Heidi and pin with bobby pins and a large silk flower barrette. I don't have a photo but wanted to say that I do that here in Indiana! ps- Love your blog and congrats on your engagement :)
you look so pretty with your hair like this, its a great funky skyle :-D
Oh man this use to be my go to hair style for years, and now it's in style and of course... my hair is too short. Oh well, you look great and it fits your face shape really well (is that a weird comment?) Love it, and I'm so jealous of your lovely locks.

that's funny--after your post yesterday i decided to sport heidi braids today :) it's one of my favorite hairstyles--esp when i've just washed my hair and it isn't dry enough to tease. and when i take them out--voila! waves!
wish my hair was long enough to do this!
I seriously love all of your hair how-to's! Soon my hair will be long enough for this hehe, thanks again for posting!
I've been trying to do this for ages, but it hasn't been working out. I think it's because my hair is ridiculously thick so it just really poofs out on my head and looks like I'm wearing a Russian hat instead of just my hair.
i really love this style! i think my hair may be too thin for it, but i'm certainly going to try! the instructions are so helpful. ~joelle
I do them a lot too, so comfy. You look sooo great :)
i have always wanted to do these but now my hair is way too short : ( as soon as it grows i will definitely try them, since i know how to now.
thanks for posting this!!

Love this look, great post! XOXO, Natalya
looks so good but won't work with my secret extensions.
I'll send the photos of me in my braids...in about six months. It's still way too short to do this do I'm lusting over.
Thanks, Julie! I love the look and am excited to try it. If I master it, I'll be sure to send a pic your way.
Super cute and looks simple. I'm gonna give this a try. Hoping my hair is long enough. My hair is usually down or in a pony tail so this would be a fun, welcome change!
ps: I'm following. Your blog is amazing!
gorgeous!!
ooo i'm so inspired! thanks for sharing your tips!
what a cute hairstyle! you pull it off well. :)
i also really like your hair when it is just down and wavy. it has so much volume and texture! love it.
xoxo
You are absolutely beautiful! Gorgeous hair, too :) Once mine grows a little longer, I will definitely be attempting this style.
What a great side profile you have. Beautiful.
I totally perked up when i remembered you were doing this post today.
You look super cute in pigtail braids too if you ever felt like going for that look. :)
Love your toots (tutorials...)

I have been growing out my hair and it has been really tough, but seeing how long and beautiful yours is, makes me really excited for it to get that length. Thanks for the inspiration!
So pretty. I've been thinking about growing my hair long, and I now I feel much more motivated!
your hair is gorgeous! I love the lighter ends-look. I cannot wait for my hair to get this long!

i dont think my hair will evvvvver be long enough for this style, but i love it nonetheless!
So cute! I might have to try!

So cute! This was one of my favorite hairstyles to do when I had hair. I think I'm starting to miss it a little...
My hair is too long and too thick ):
It won't stay for long.
But it looks really pretty on you!!

Is it weird that I read this whole thing even though I have next to no hair? :) I think the reason yours looks so good is because your strands are so multi-tonal - when you braid it, it looks like maize!
Awesome! It's such a simple idea with such a great end result. I'll post "you" on my blog, if you don't mind! :D
Nice look. Great photos. Warmly,Karen
i just gave your blog an award on my blog! check it out :)

I am wearing my Heidi braids right now and they feel like a crown. But I can't figure out how to hide the bobby pins. I'll keep practicing but for now this is the perfect hair for 90 degree heat. Thanks!
Nice hairstyle!

wow, thanks for showing me that doing anything other than a ponytail/bun with my hair is not scary or hard!
im definitely going to try these out sometime soon!
Love it! I also have a problem with the pouf where you pull the braids up. I guess it takes practice.
how do you keep the hair from poking out/falling down after a day's of wear? or do you just have perfectly style-able hair?
Love it! thanks for sharing!
kiss from Greece!
Great tutorial! I just stumbled across your blog and I think it's great. :)
I tried the braids but I think my face is too round to pull it off - I just look like I'm off to a beer festival!
I tried your braiding technique today, and it worked wonderfully! I even received two compliments from complete strangers - a vendor at an antique mall, and a woman in the Wal-Mart washroom line with me! Ha! Thanks for the tutorial!
love this... wish i hadnt chopped 6 inches off last month.
in good news my very thin long hair pulled through for me and made this work. tried it just because you showed me how. thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial! Here is my go at it:

Ahhh I love it!! So cute on you.
Your hair is amazing, how long it took to grow that long? I'm just in the beginning, my hair is just on my shoulders and can't wait that it would be this long :) if it ever grows that much.
What a great tutorial! I wish my hair was long enough to do that :)
super cute!
my hair is just like yours.. i'm considering doing this for my halloween costume, since were doing a german thing..
I'm a little reminded of the one lady in 50 first dates though, so I'm kind of scared to try it haha
U look so cute !
gonna patronize your blog!. been wanting to style up my long hair, but i'm clueless..great hair tutorials!

I tried this a few days ago, and got so many lovely comments! I'll direct them to your blog, since that's where I learned the how-to!

Hi Julie. I am wearing this do today and I love it!!!! I had my hair cut recently and it's just about long enough to do this.
My Husband did give me a funny look but then again I don't think he has ever seen me with my hair properly up rather than just shoved in a messy bun whilst gardening!
Thanks for the inspiration. xx
