Goodbye and good riddance, August! Today has been one of THE hottest days ever and I have to say, I'm over summer. Over. It. I'm also not afraid to say that I've been rocking this Morticia-Addams-on-summer-vacation look for the past three days. It's the only thing suitable for 100*f heat. I've noticed that New Englanders get a little rough around the edges this time of year, we've experienced a little bit of fall and are now being subjected to an indian summer, we've exhausted our summer wardrobes and are pining for sweaters and tights, just give us 65 degrees already!
This look is kind of faux-styled: just a dress, but pile on enough hardware and you look like you might know what you're doing! I've had this studded leather cuff since sophomore year of high school. A few years back I passed down most of my band t-shirts and studded jewelry to my brother, but I couldn't part with this piece. It aged so well, I knew I would want it in the future.

I can already tell you that posting will be light this week, we're expecting three more 90+ degree days before it cools down this weekend and I'm planning on hiding out wherever there is air-conditioning. I'm also insisting on not cooking, it's take-out tonight!
Oh! also, look what we found out front of Chris' work today:

I've never seen a Praying Mantis in real life before! This one was huge, I'm thinking it must have been female? She was hanging out on the windowsill this morning, admiring her reflection.

My folks liked to keep mantises as pets... and let them loose in the house (they're totally harmless and like to hang out in the kitchen with my mom)... only a little strange.
They also liked to give them funny names. I think we had
Jonny Mantis
Micky Mantis
Mantis de Sade
Marilyn Mantis
Gorgeous! And you look cute too ;) The layered bracelets are so cool!
Beautiful! I have a deep, deep love of ivy-covered buildings. And long dresses. And bad-ass jewelry. So pretty much.. I LOVE your outfit!
looks like the comfy-est and cutest outfit ever!
I'm so ready to get down to a solid 80 degrees down here in Florida! :)
Nice photo of the mantis! I like those oldoldold bracelets.
WHat an amazing praying mantis!!!! Summer has been cramping my style, clearly not yours though! I love that you just "pile on enough hardware to look like you know what you're doing" haha its the best advice I've ever heard for hot-as-hell days.
i agree & i am SO ready for fall clothes!
that photo frightened me and brought me back to about 3 years ago when a praying mantis flew into my dorm room and was just nestled on my ceiling...*shudder*
Ooooo, I love the stacked bracelets! If they were a trick to making your outfit look purposeful, then it certainly worked!
You look great...love the simplicity of the dress and your hair is gorgeous!
I love your hair. How long did it take to grow out that long?
A praying mantis! What fun! I love the shoot location you did for the outfit; beautiful. It's awesome how you layered the bracelets, and the dress looks wonderful on you (and for quite a nice price, I might add)! I'm not terribly tall, so I don't tend to wear maxis, but the one thing I love about them is that i you ever get tired of how long they are, you can always pull out the fabric scissors. Versatile? Heck yes!
You look fabulous! I love the layered bracelets.

Love the layered bracelets as the simple way to take the simple black maxi to the next level! And even though it might be ridiculously hot, you still look fab!

Looking fabulous here! ANd yes, I'm with you - I want fall to come, stat.
yep.....painfully waiting for fall!!!
You fooled me with those layered bracelets that you know what you're doing! I love how many of them there are, and how chunky...
LOVE the maxi dress...you make it look very elegant and statuesque! Plus the black really offsets to your skin and hair!
that's so crazy you saw a preying mantis! I've never seen one before. I love your black dress and that cross ring is so cool!

nice dress! i like how you paired it with the jewelry!
I'm in Montreal and the heat has been deadly here too!
And now they say it's going to be a lot cooler this weekend. Mother nature needs to make up her mind. Feels like today is gonna be another doozy. thank goodness for air conditioned offices is all i gotta say!
You look like a chich hippie goddess!
Sweet praying mantis! I saw one a few days ago at the bank :) I think the female ones are larger than the males as well.
Good luck with the heat! I'm also pining for sweaters and the like!
Basic black paired with lots of intense jewelry is always a solid win. You look stunning.
I always get so excited when I see a praying mantis. I saw a baby one hanging out on my mailbox a few weeks ago. So cute!

You look fantastic, the perfect mixture of relaxed and hardcore :P
woah, that's insane, I've always wanted to see one up close and personal like this.
I really love this outfit. I've always loved the look of black with tons of jewellery piled on - "faux styled" or not - you're rocking it.

Julie! I have been aching for a long black maxi dress for weeks now - you're telling me I can find one at H&M for $12?! Oy vey. I picked up a dingy, not-long-enough one today at the thrift store...but I think I need to go downtown for this one :)
I absolutely LOVE your jewelry. I love how you go from being girly in your 50's/70's silhouettes then edgy rocker!! Amazing look here! Repeat, repeat, repeat!
I can't get over how gorgeous you are! This look is incredible on you.

Ah, I'm dying for heat over here in Canada! But we always want what we don't have right? Adorable dress nonetheless, and love the accessorizing - definitely completes the outfit!
