So, I'm looking less than stoked in these photos and- surprisingly- it's not because of the weather or the cold this time. Now, generally I've become pretty comfortable taking photos of myself in public, I've come to care much more about this blog than my own dignity in recent months. In the winter I'm pretty much relegated to the parking lot behind my apartment due to it's convenience, and up until today it's usually pretty quiet when I'm out there. However, today was different. As soon as I had my tripod and camera set up two dudes roll up and start jump-starting the monster van in the space next to where I'm standing. And when I say "monster van" I mean it exactly how it sounds...a conversion van that's been spray-painted blue and jacked up on tractor tires. The things been sitting in the lot for months now and I was pretty convinced someone was living in it. And watching me. Charming, right? SO they're gunning it, and I'm trying to take my photos, and long story short I look a little stiff because I was trying not to huff the diesel fumes wafting in my direction and was feeling a little bit self-conscious of the fact they were standing a mere seven feet away from me. I smelled like a snowmobile rally for the rest of the day. Those of you who have never smelled a snowmobile rally, go stand behind a diesel engine for a few minutes and you'll know what I'm talking about. They happen in Maine, and they're not pretty.

And I know, I know I could have moved. But I was there first.
Ahh, rant over. I feel better. Despite my sour expression I did enjoy my outfit today. I know It's pretty similar to a couple I've worn recently I woke up late today and this is what I ended up throwing on. I can't believe that tomorrow is Thursday already! I'm so glad this week is flying by, I have some fun plans for the weekend!
Cheers!

Your story cracked me up!! I lugged my tripod to a park last week on a particularly nice day, and a man on a walk just stood and watched me take my photos. He never said a word, and he wasn't really creepy....it was just weird, and I felt super self-conscious!
I love the shades of plum in your outfit...so cute!
so funny! i am super shy about where i take photos, so you are brave to just do it where you are!
by the way, i am just luurrrving what you are wearing recently. huge huge girl crush right now.
How ridiculous. I HATE those creepy vans and the creepos who live in them. Anyway, Your outfit is beautiful. I love the little sweater!
You do look pretty fierce, I'm surprised you didn't manage to glare them out of there! But, that outfit is adorable! It is similar to some recent ones, but unique and cute in its own right :o)

Hahaha! That sounds like a terrible.. (yet really funny to us!) story! Hahaha! I'm laughing on the inside right now because I'm in my dead silent class! The things we fashion bloggers do, aye!? You look darling for throwing this together! And ugh, your hairrrrr! I love it.
creeper story! i would've been torn... too weirded out to leave? or too weirded out to stay? ha.
in other news... this outfit is SOOOOOO awesome. pulled together and the picture of professional but still so fun! you just look so crisp but still relaxed. i need to learn to get that balance!
Yuck, that sounds so gross! Love your outfit! The mauve tights are gorgeous :)
Man, that totally reminds me of people in here, ugh.
Love this outfit, nice shades of purple!

Ugh, what an awkward moment. At least you look gorgeous.
Love the shades of purple and I'm coveting your skirt!

Love your outfit so much today that it warranted my first comment! I really liked the colors you put together, and I must tell you that you've totally turned me on to looking for those warm, thick, old Granny skirts at the thrift store to hem up to my knees! Thanks so much for giving me inspiration to wear more than jeans and a tee every day!
Ps. do you get your cardigans a little bigger to wrap them that way with the belt?
I love the combination with the skirt shoes and beige cardigan so much! Also, if you don't mind me asking, how long have you been growing your hair/how long did it take you to get your hair that length? It's gorgeous.

i love the scarf and the entire color palette! pretty pretty.
i love that you said you care more abt your blog than your own dignity. i realized the same was true for me when i actually changed shirts on my balcony so that i could photograph each and see which looked better.
Ugh! Diesel fumes suck!
I LOVE this outfit so much. The burgundy, mauve and purple are some of my favorite colors together. I love that skirt, every single time you wear it :)
love this look...that skirt is phenomenal with the leggings and I love the way the front of that jacket is cut. Great move on adding the belt, this look really works!
Since you shared the creeper story, here's mine: my boyfriend was taking pictures of me one day and two other guys working construction across the street came over and whipped out their camera phones, and started taking pictures of him taking pictures of me. We acted like we weren't fazed but I was seriously trippin'. What is wrong with people???
You look adorable and your story made me laugh a little. :-)
Love the color combo! And the expressions on your face is priceless. Love it!
I still take my shots inside my apartment to avoid awkward moments. I should at least make an effort and snap them on my balcony, though. What a sketchy encounter! But I'm loving the purple tights with the those shoes! I'm not sure I would have looked twice at the shoes but they definitely work with the look. I'll have to consider that style...

Well at least you totally rocked it next to those monster truck men! :) Love the outfit!
love the glasses!!! you rock the geek chic look hands down!!!!
You're a professional blogger now! Getting that outfit shot, even when being ogled by weird van dudes, as well as huffing mad fumes...that's commitment! In any case, you look fabulous. I love the angles and layers in this outfit.
Ah Julie you look awesome! and since I saw you using cardigans and shirts like that -tied with only the belt- I became fan of it. Hope the monster van dudes don't bother a lot.
ughhhh i hate the smell of diesel fumes! so gross.
however, you look beautiful! you remix that skirt so well!
not to laugh in your face but AHAHAH! ... it is annoying when you expect a bit of 'privacy' in a location you've been dozens of times.
nevertheless, i love that sweater... was it a diy? the wrap around style is fantastic.
xo.

Once I had to change for a photoshoot in an open parking lot the only covering I had was to try to change in the car. But the back seat was full of clothes. There were MAJOR creepers.
You look beautiful though!
i love the subdued pink and purple shades of this outfit...:D
and i too hate the smell of car fumes...not only does it cling to your clothes but it gives me allergies too...
ps. despite holding your breath, you still look fab!

I love the colors in your outfit... *jealous* of this one definitely! I like how you crossed your sweater in the front like that, it works very well.
And I know what you mean about taking pics for your blog, I feel very self-conscious too but need to get over it soon! :]
Thanks for sharing!
You may be blue, but your tights are the most divine shade of purple! ;)
Love the scarf! pretty!
If that'd happened to me during photo time, I'd run away. I'm not comfortable with my tripod in public yet. Though, I really really wish I was.
Don't light a match until you take a shower.

LOL!!! You should've got up all in their face! for the sake of your blog, that is... lol! I love the purple you added today!! The tights, the skirt, the scarf... they're all different shades so it's not an overwhelming purple. Love it!!
PS...I've been tying my scarf your way ever since that video! Thansk so much!!

What a bummer! You look great though! I love how you wrap your cardigan like that! So unexpected, does the belt really hold it in place?
these colours work so good together!
your very brave. I think I am in love with your shoes
Haha oh dear!! I guess at least they didn't try to do anything more! You would have never guessed you were being fumed under in the pictures.
Great outfit.

You look gorgeous! I love this outfit and think you look great in the pink and purple tones.
Ha! Great story! I think all of us who venture out without a photographer can relate to it to some degree. I don't even have a tripod, so I feel especially stupid when people watch me balance my camera on some precarious object while I strike a pose. :) Oh well, it's probably just made their day that much more interesting. Good for you for sticking to your ground! ;)

I love all of the different hues of purple in this outfit. So cute!
those shoes are seriously awesome. and i love your purples, too!
Aww I hope you're smiling again soon! I owe you an email :)
haha...i kinda like your WTF expression. i had no idea you took your own photos- tripod and all. love it!
funny story, lady. i still don't like taking photos with strangers around. weirds me out!
love the thrifted booties...i've never had any good luck w/thrift store shoes.
Megan
Love this look! And love your boldness about taking photos!
I never think about what it must be like to photograph yourself every day--glad you're sticking it out! I get some stares when I photograph baked goods too, but mostly from hungry friends who don't want to wait any longer to eat.
This outfit is just lovely. The colors and the shapes of the pieces fit together perfectly, and as usual you end up with such a nice blend of funky and classy. Even if you did smell for half the day, you still looked great! And well done sticking to your guns despite those obnoxious dudes! If all else had failed, I'm sure the tripod could've been a great weapon! :)
Gaa! How you do seem to have a never ending supply of perfect skirts! All different textures and fabrics and weights, and all just perfect on you! Yeah, I'm not a fan of people seeing me taking pictures of myself, which is why I do it indoors, despite the better light outside! I'm a wimp!
i don't knw how you do it- i'm wayyy to nervous to take photos in public, so i just stick to my room. either way, i should really invest in a tripod, even if it's just a cheap one. haha, loved your entertaining story.

Oh my gosh hysterical!!! Sometimes it's hard to take photos with people around hey!
At least your outfit is amazing! I really love that skirt, I don't know why, but it looks so comfortable
Uh, that is hilarious. And the biggest fear I have and why I haven't yet ventured outside to take any pics.
LOVE that skirt and how you belt your cardigans. Adorable.
I knew you were hardcore, but taking outfit pics while a bunch of dudes jumpstart a monster van? that is gutsy!
This outfit is darling... I love the colors together, especially the unexpected shoe color, and the pop of print with the scarf.
I'm sorry you felt stiff. You look great as always. I love the mix of purples!
Good luck taking more photos!
Oh... that'll put a damper on outfit shots. Hey, it was a great story though and sometimes, that makes it worth it.
You look good (I'm sure your audience noticed too) and are rocking a great colour combo.
I love your style! <3
I love your skirt! Your expression in the second picture is too funny!
Good for you for not leaving!
Despite those meanies, you look awesome!
Pretty colors in this outfit!
You are braver than me. If I feel even a little bit watched while taking pictures, I either freeze up completely and wait for them to leave. Or I just leave. Haha. Way to stick it out, fumes and all.

OH! la la! Your outfit/hair/accessories look amazing today!
Ark.. sorry to hear about those annoying dudes... but yet make up for a funny story!
-Coco from Our Paper Moon
Aww, but at least you look super cute!
I hate when people watch me taking photos too. One time a lovely old lady even offered to take my picture, bless her cotton socks!
Well, despite this one incident, I envy your ability to take public photos and not be shy about it! I'm working on that... And, I super love these glasses. Annie.
Well, I can't smell you via the internet so you look impeccable in these pictures regardless of the smell :) The color palette is so soft and pretty and I love how you belted that cardigan!
