Well, it's pretty freezing here in Beverly. Good thing I had this perfect vintage collar to keep me warm! I've actually had this piece since I was a kid, I remember being, like 7, and playing dress up with it! Turns out it was my great grandmother's, I'm so thankful I never mindlessly got rid of it. I rediscovered the collar last week at my moms. I had one day where I really had no plans and was stuck at home with no car, so I did a little investigating. Apart from this fur collar I also found my mother's prom dress (cotton, floor length, circa 1975-ish-awesome), her wedding dress (floor length, apparently cost 70 bucks- go mom), and a bunch of old cameras that belonged to various relatives. a lot of these things used to be common place in my mom's home but have been boxed up since our home fire of 2004. The stuff that didn't burn was boxed and stored and never really looked at until now. It's like finding buried treasure! I know after reading this post she will send me all sorts of emails about how I can find more stuff if I help clean the basement (it's on my list, mum!).
I like the combination of my tweed skirt, the fur wrap, and my cable knit tights. Texture! I also chose to wear heels today, which is a rare occurrence. Heels generally kill me, but this pair from UO is perfection. Somehow they distribute my weight evenly to make them relatively painless. I still can't walk a mile in them (I'm at a desk most of the day at my office), but they're much better than others I've tried. Another of my New Year's resolutions is to buy better quality footwear. Most of my clothes are thrifted already, and I feel if I spend on anything it should be on shoes that will last me a while.

Love this. I know what you mean about heels. I found my most recent grey high-heeled booties at Marshalls (in a section labeled "shoes you might like", ha) and even though they have a heel, they are so comfortable (and stylish). Perfect weight distribution!
I only wish I could find my mom's old prom dress and her really great "wedding hat" as I call it. My great-grandmother had a fur collar that I realllllly want. No one else seems to want to claim it so this look is inspiring me to do so myself!
I love this! I'm such a huge fan of the fur collar with a cardigan. I really have to try this out.
Great outfit, love the collar.
The booties are so great! And the collar too of course!

Love the hand me down collar! :)
That fur is the perfect color for you! Love it. You look so classic. Maybe try wedges vs heels? Either way, you pull off flats very well, so whatever! :)
I love treasure-hunting for clothes, too. That's why thrift shopping is so much more fun than shopping at a standard, name-brand focused mall. :) Your style is such an inspiration. Can't wait to see more!
good God i love those shoes. ohh urban outfitters, you slay me.
Looking at the pictures I thought that the fur was part of the sweater, but when I realized that it's not, I just thought "pure genius". I really love this look.
I love the outfit. Your blog is amazing.

Holy bananas, Julie, I LOVE this. Everything about it. The treasure-hunted collar, the skirt, those killah shoes. I love it all.
You look so chic today, that I'm now coveting everything you are wearing!

very very pretty! I love the collar. I have like the same one from my grandma and have the same memories of playing with it as a kid. Hmmm sometimes I think we are the same person! hehe

I love how this has that 40s glamor to it and then you mixed it up with these fringe shoes - very clever!
one of my very good friends has a collar just like that - i'm not sure if she thrifted it or if it's an heirloom ... it makes me so happy when she wears it!
i could agree anymore - that's probably the reason why vintage has become so prominent in fashion nowadays ... xx
ah i know what you mean! i was searching through some of my old clothes and realizing that some of them are back in style! :) i love it.
you look absolutely stunning in these pictures with that vintage fur collar!
The fur collar looks adorable on you! You have such a wonderful personal style. Pieces with family ties are so much fun to wear and style!
I love that your mom reads your blog too...my mom always calls or texts me in regards to something that I wrote on my blog! Though, when I neglected to send her a Christmas wish list, she became resourceful and shopped off of items I featured on my blog which was a pleasant surprise!
i remember scouring old clothes from our grandma's closet...it's amazing finding out how the styles ultimately come back..:D
i love love LOVE your shoes!

The fur and the hair makes it look so 60s, I love
That collar looks great! You reminded me that my grandmother had a fox fur collar that I used to play with as a kid... I wonder what ever happened to that. I should try finding out!
damn, I'm sorry to hear about your home fire. On the flip side, it sounds like a lot of amazing, important things were saved...I love that fur collar - I have a couple butttt they're faux annddd from forever 21. *kinda* not the same thing :)

Oh I love that fur collar. I wish my mom had saved more of her old clothes.
And I definitely second buying better quality footwear. Now that I've started buying higher quality shoes, I've realized that many styles I used to never wear can actually be very comfortable.
LOVE THE FUR! I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ONE TO PUT ON AN ARMY JACKET- JUST CAN'T FIND A GOOD ONE!!
YOU LOOK ADORABLE!
PS- I ALOS LOVE THOSE SHOES- THEY ARE GREAT!
I love this look! It makes me want to leave California for some snow to stomp around in! Please keep us posted on your shoe finds. I broke my foot a year ago, and had to throw away all of my favorite heels. Now I'm on the constant search for cute and sensible shoes... it's annoying how ugly and expensive most "good for you" shoes are :)
this is just too gorgeous and i am definitely copying soon.
did you pin your cardigan on the side? i love the assymetrical look of the buttons.
I posted almost the same thing the day before! Ha ha...Great style minds must think alike! ;)
You look so classy, like a lady, I'd love to run around town like that. And those shoes are so unexpected and, in my opinion, make that whole outfit. You look wonderful!
Love the fur collar and the way you wore it! Those shoes are making me want to give up my UO ban! LOVE them!
I love that collar!
Those shoes are absolutely adorable, love it!
What a pretty fur collar! I've been obsessed with them lately. And I'm so jealous your mom and grandma kept all of their vintage stuff.. all of my family threw out everything! You're really going to have to post more stuff if you find some so I can live vicariously through you!
That fur collar is perfect. You look so darling in it! I've been spotting them around, but nothing like that. Vintage is where it's at! I wish my grandma kept her clothing! Lucky!
So gorgeous. I love the fur collar!!

Those booties are amazing!
Those are some amazing finds! I remember seeing my mom's wedding gown in her closet when I was a kid, but I think at some point she got rid of it. I love the way you styled the fur collar. This outfit is just gorgeous!
Love this outfit. Great collar!!
