Brrrrrrrrr!

Dress: Thakoon for Target (24.00?)
Belt: Vintage via thrift (1.00)
Tights: Urban Outfitters (3.99 sale)
Shoes: Thrift (1.99)
Yes, I definitely had a coat with me...it was very cold! Hello Winter! I felt like the pattern on my dress was vaguely reminiscent of snowflakes and therefore appropriate for the snowy day. I tend to forget all about this dress in the back of my closet, it's great though because the sleeves can be rolled down for winter and it has pockets. This is also my (lame) attempt at pattern mixing...where's the other pattern you're asking? My tights are lightly striped, see? I know, I know, don't go too crazy, right? I really admire people who can successfully mix and match patterns, but I have never been one of them. I'd like to start though, it would certainly open up my closet options a bit more. How do you feel about mixing patterns? Do you have any tips on how to pull it off?

LOVE this dress. Definitely missed it at Target. Perfect snowy-weather outfit!
Oh my gosh LOVE LOVE LOVE that dress! Glad to see you're enjoying the snow :)
That owl belt is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Aren't thrift stores the best for belts?
I want to steal your whole outfit, it's perfect! As for tips, not that I've been brave enough to try, but I've heard:keep the patterns in the same color family, and make sure one is more dominant than the other, black and white is always the easiest to start with.
that dress is rad! and i love it with the purple tights.
seriously, i am with you on pattern mixing--i am terrified of it. but you are exciting and brave in other ways (hair, proportions, footwear, cool glasses) and so it is actually a relief to hear that you are fashion-shy about other things.
oh me, too. i attempted pattern matching in the same way as you today! nothing wrong with that!
the dress is beautiful and it does look like little snowflakes!
I love that dress!!!!!!!!!!!
I think sticking to patterns in a similar color family helps make the outfit cohesive.
oh man, this dress is brilliant. i echo your pattern mixing sentiments. i get inspired by the crazy things my two year old puts together. today it was polka-dot tights and a floral skirt. so cute. i think a small stripe goes with any other pattern. it's a good place to start.
:)
just to clarify: polka-dot tights and floral skirt on HER, not me.
Love the dress and belt! I can't believe there's still no snow where I am. =(

I am in love with that dress.
Adore your hair.

The owl belt is just so cute.. love your dress, too!

Love this! Everything fits perfectly (and wearing purple tights always make me happy) and the hair is adorable.
Ooh, I just LOVE that dress! The detailing on it is so pretty. Stay warm!!
I LOVE this dress! You look adorable!
Ok, so I have been reading your blog for a while, and I just love your style and creativity! I especially LOOOOVE your hair! Would you mind doing a tutorial or just write a post explaining your hair regime... ya know like what shampoo/conditioner you use, hair products, how you style it post-shower on an average day. That would be fabulous! Thanks doll!

I like the new header!
That dress is great. I wish I had more dresses. But I'm never patient enough to find the right fit. I need to think outside the box with my work wardrobe.
This dress is fantastic! Also perfect for the wintry weather. And I feel your pain on the mixing patterns--I'm definitely too chicken to try it.
i love pattern mixing--i think it's really about just going for it even if you feel like a crazy person. i love the dress! and the hair is of course awesome!

I love, love, love your belt!
I love your hair; I might steal this for tomorrow. And the nosering, too. I mean, I like it, I won't steal it, of course. Cause I bet that would be painful :)
xx
Pretty dress - love the pleating on the front. I can't mix patterns either. In fact I tend to avoid patterns altogether but I'd happily wear a black & white patterned dress like yours! I don't think I've found the right pattern for me yet :)
Wonderful dress and I love it with the owl belt! Pattern mixing can be scary, we explored the methodology behind it a bit on our site last year:

And we file all our stuff when we try to mix it up with pattern here:

I think your subtle mix of the tights and the dress looks great! And the dress looks like it's doing some pattern mixing for you too :)
Lovely, as always! S.
i want your dress! can't believe it was only $24!
love your little side bun and poses :)
we don't even have snow here in london but i still complain about the cold and think maybe wearing tights isn't a good idea. i think i just need to suck it up!
love the dress!
cute buns ! i love ur vintagy belt over the printed dress dear !
I haven't experimented much with mixing patterns, but lately I've been getting the itch ... I'll have to look through my closet and see. I love the purple tights, and this post makes me regret passing that dress up at Target last year. Pretty sure I did enough Thakoon for Target damage though... :)

I love me some pattern mixing! But mostly that dress is awesome... Sometimes I am sad that there is an hour drive and a border (where I always have to go in and fill out forms because I'm an immigrant) between myself and Target.
I love the pattern of this dress! I think I remember you wearing in the summer and I like how you transitioned it for winter. Your hair is swell-looking too!
I did a little bit of pattern mixing this week, and I'm tempted to do more once I (ha!) organize my closet. I think an easy way to test the waters with pattern mixing is to stick in the same color range with a few pieces.

Oh my gosh... I'm in love with this dress! You look awesome as always! :)
Anyone can pull anything off - its a matter of confidence! (a stylist told me this once, and I've lived by the words ever since!)
Your belt is incredible, and that dress - to die for!

the new banner is rocking and so is that owl belt! you are the bomb. the end.
your hair is the best! if mine weren't so long, i would have to get you to teach me how to do it. and how funny about you going to school with my BF, such a small world.
Gorgeous dress!! You look so pretty with your hair like that too. You always have the best hair styles- oh wow, I love them!

you are always finding such great dresses at target .. i need to keep a better eye out!
also, as everyone else has already said, i looooooove your hair!
What a great dress, and it's lovely paired with eggplant tights :) Mixing patterns can be a little tricky, but I find that staying in the same color palette is the easiest way to go (kinda like your dress... the pattern at the hem and above it are slightly different, but same colors so it just works).
P.S. I know you get this a lot, but your hairdos are just fabulous :) I'm gonna start growing my hair out again because I miss playing with long hair!
this dress is PERFECT for a slightly snowy day. the pattern works well with the small patches of earth poking through the snow. the three-quarter sleeves work fabulously - very sophisticated :)
xo.

lovelovelove the dress! i also love your cutest buns <33
I LOVE the hair and the dress! Holy cow! Love!
I'm a bit of chicken about pattern mixing as well. The most adventurous I've been is with mixing colorful patterned tights and a shirt with a crazy pattern.
Goodness, I am so in love with this belt! It looks good with everything!
I love that you have such a ladylike vibe going, and then that nose ring! Very fun.
I love the way you styled this dress! The belt and tights definitely take it up a notch. Glad to hear you had a coat :)

also too freakin' cute!
Ive been following your blog quietly for awhile now but had to jump out of lurkerville to say how much i admire you for still being so freakin cute while theres snow on the ground. It hit -12 last night and alli could bring myself to wear out was a fleece and sneakers!
Love and want your dress!!! Love the color combo with the tights.
I adore your dress! So pretty!
hahaha...i have the SAME thakoon skirt! http://tr.im/Hx1E i didn't know it came as a dress too. love it! so fun meeting & talking to you yesterday :)
lovely! mixing patterns is going to be big for spring. i'm not a pattern-mixing-expert, but my suggestion is to just go crazy with it. throw some stripes and florals together but ground it with something basic like black tights or a simple blazer. i might have to give it a try myself.
love ur dress! seriously u really have lovely hair:D i'm with ya, i admire people who can mix and match patterns:)
